That's what my mothers half of the family (the Asian side) always say to me too lol, they were raised on spicy food and can't understand why I hate it. Bland all day for me, when we go to an Indian restaurant I'm always the guy ordering lemon chicken curry

Well Tarver beat a legend in Roy Jones, and we know what that means.

Not only that, he beat another legend by proxy in Danny Green, so that makes him a triple legend. Keep up, bruv.

For fuck sake, Khan was the one who said he wanted to fight Peterson in his hometown and now the excuses are coming out about ''a hometown ref'', ''unfair judges'', etc. C'mon man....

It's pathetic. I'll be honest, I don't know if the German TV spent a full week showing a picture of Vitali landing that short right on Lewis, but I sincerely doubt it.

Another thing, where did Khan learn his trade? Pushing is not against the rules? The guy is stood there talking about how he was pushing Peterson off to "get him off me, to get my leverage"....:dunno:

Its like saying...."I cheated but only because I hadn't studied"

Of course you pushed him off you to get space and leverage, cos you got no inside game or short-stuff , you ninny.

Did Khan say that that was the first "shiner" he's received in his career? Did he not receive after the Maidana fight?

 He said it was the first shiner of his pro career, presumably to distinguish them from the ones he was getting as amateur.

He also said that most of the bruises on his face were caused by headbutts from Peterson. :wack:

I didn't see Peterson throw a single headbutt.

If they want to see a bad case of a fighter boring in with the head, then they should ask HBO for a copy of Ortiz vs Berton, a fight where Lampley made no mention of the continuous boring-in by Ortiz.

So one second Khan gives Peterson his props for the way he fought and the next accuses him of boring-in with his head? - make your mind up Khan, lad.

Peterson did no wrong in the way he fought, it's just that Khan was clueless on how to effectively fight against that style.

Being fair to Khan, I place him only mid-table in the blame game. It's SKY, HBO and Golden Boy who are amongst the chief propagandists in this game. Khan just trots out what they tell him to trot out. Forget Khan- you've got Pops Khan, Freddie Roach, Asif Vali {his business manager}, Oscar, Schaefer, Bernard, then you got HBO and SKY weighing in too, then you got the Guardian Newspaper.

Who is this fucking kid? Shirley Temple?

Ortiz cheated. Ortiz probably took PED's, Ortiz quit vs Maidana, but it was Ortiz who was backed all the way by HBO, to the extend that a guy with a wide back was getting loved up by Lampley vs Fraud.

As I say, I have never seen an American fighter get so roundly shat upon by his own people for such a good performance against a non-American.

This just goes to show it has nothing to do with Nationality.

British or not, Khan's the guy HBO invested money in, hoped to build their program around, and who fights for the promoter with whom they have a close and mutually beneficial relationship.

    Exactly.

Khan threw solid shots sometimes, but mostly threw "stay off me punches." And when those didn't work he flat out pushed Peterson away from him.

There were many times they came together because Khan over-extends on his punches and fell into Peterson. I forget which round it was but Khan lunged in to punch, Peterson stepped back then Khan threw himself off balance and fell because Peterson wasn't there for him to lean against.

I expect to see Khan on Showtime next year along with the rest of the Golden Boy fighters. The first evidence is the rematch between Berto and Ortiz early next year. Both guys were born and raised on HBO, now the rematch winds up on Showtime due to a difference of a couple hundred thousand dollars.

I fully expect most Al Haymon and Golden Boy fighters to make their way to Showtime.

Don't forget, Ken Hershman left Showtime for HBO and the guy who got Hershman's old job worked for Golden Boy.

Interesting. If that's the case, I wouldn't be surprised to see HBO and Showtime trade places as the better of the two networks, with HBO showing good fights, and Showtime taking over as the "star" builder.

You have to differentiate though between fanchise guys like Pacquiao and Khan, and guys like Ortiz.

Hopkins, for example, who is no longer a franchise fighter, took his rematch with Pascal to Showtime, but was right back on HBO PPV in his next fight.

Khan should fight in Chicago after the rematch in Vegas.. He'd have to get KO'd to lose there.

I thought we had more in common Slice :(

To me a meal isn't a meal without at least 5 birds eye chillies. I love fresh chillies.

The only food I can tolerate no chillies in is good French food, as it's just so rich and delicious, and creamy etc.

Probably my #1 dish in the world is Pho Tai, Viet beef soup, loaded with chillies and fresh coriander etc, and raw steak and brisket, I swear it's food from the gods.

How is that Khan franchise working out though? I doubt Khan sold many tickets Saturday night. It's been well reported that the Judah fight (in vegas) was a disaster. The hotels were giving out free tickets and heavily discounted rooms just to get folks to show up.

Well, I'd say it's a work in progress. Prior to Saturday, I'd say HBO and GBP had made significant progress, with Khan/PBF and Khan/Pacquiao having been talked about, at least hypothetically.

Saturday I think they sold a lot of tickets. And that was without a single hispanic involved in the televise fights! They always have the UK option too, and could include a hispanic fighter either as an opponent or on the under-card.

I'd say there were every reason, prior to Saturday, for HBO and GBP to feel they were looking at a future star.

The point is, HBO has and will continue to have a vested interest in distorting viewers' perception if that's what it takes to recoup on their investment in Khan and the revenue they plan to generate from him.

The Pascal rematch was on HBO, the first fight on Showtime.

either way. point is, it's not like berto has gone to showtime never to return to hbo. that might be the case with pacquiao, but very few other fighters are confined to a single network.

I read it in a article entitled:

"How HBO lost Pacquiao to Showtime."

I forget what publication it was, but primarily, it represented Arum's point of view which was that HBO hadn't been acommodating, and as a result, they were moving to Showtime.

Don't you remember that? We had threads about it.

What I don't know is if any of that's changed as the result of HBO hiring a new guy. It's possible this was the very issue over which the HBO guy lost his job.

For fuck sake, he isn't using these accusations as an excuse not to come to Peterson's hometown, he was brave enough to come to Peterson's hometown. Rather, he's directing them at an obvious case of 'a hometown ref' and an arguable case of 'unfair judges'.

And it just so happens that the only judge who had the 'right' score, wasn't a homer.

I generally think that judging tends to be fair no matter where you are. But a lot of that has to do with the fact that foreigners fighting in other countries don't have to put up with an army of hometown refs and judges. Not necessarily because the hometown judges and refs can't be impartial, but because the other countries realize that the US media and populace will be crying bitches if their fighter happens to be a guy who loses a questionable call in their country.

Juxtapose this with the US insisting on using their local officials for almost every fight and showing 'neutrality' because they fly in a judge from Las Vegas. The situation sucks and if the next Brit or other foreigner says 'fuck you' to fighting in the US at a guy's hometown, how can anyone blame him?

That was how he went to Showtime for the Mosley fight. The last Marquez fight was on HBO.

Steve Kim was a harsh critic of the referee in his initial article about the fight...he's since had a change of heart. I suggest checking out the video he cites on Youtube. Watch the video then tell me if you think Khan's pushing was "excessive."

For those who can't view the video right away...the video tallies 18 occurences prior to the first point deduction. A total of 50 leading into the final round and multiple occurences AFTER the second point was deducted.

    COOPER RECANT

After watching the recent bout between Lamont Peterson and Amir Khan a few times (hey, I enjoyed the fight. What can I say?), I have to say that I think my original thoughts on referee Joe Cooper were more than a tad harsh (http://www.maxboxing.com/news/sub-lead/peterson-and-hunter-take-home-their-lombardi-trophy) and in looking back at his performance as the third man in the ring- after being a bit too close to the action in the opening rounds- I think he actually did a very good job. And this video put together by John Chavez of the Boxing Truth seems to back that up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEpQpOU5i8w

The more I think about it, my only complaint about Cooper is that on the final warning he gave to Khan for pushing off on Peterson in the sixth, he should’ve called a quick time-out, making it clear to everyone in that arena that one more shove and a point would be docked instead of just saying so in the course of action. And I’m really conflicted about the second penalty on Khan because it just looked like the worst kind of timing in that circumstance. You hate to see such a well-contested fight like that be decided by a referee’s ruling. But really, is Cooper merely being castigated for enforcing the rules while many other officials don’t? I’ve said for a few years we’ve needed more refs like Keith Hughes (who clipped Andre Berto early for clinching against Luis Collazo in their fight, which opened up the action) that are willing to actually go by the Marquis of Queensbury rules. Let’s make this clear; Khan clearly broke the rules dozens of times and was warned for them. What he was executing was not a skill or a tactic but a violation of the rulebook - something that the HBO announcing crew conveniently forgot.

And if a referee’s rulings make for better fights, who is opposed to that? (And yeah, I know that other fighters like Muhammad Ali got away with murder for years when it came to holding and grabbing opponents behind the neck. All that tells me is that, then, those fights deserved better officiating)

Now, I’m not saying we need to go to the letter of the law for every infraction but it’s been said in other sports like basketball for instance, that referees could whistle fouls in every possession but will not do so unless a competitive advantage is really gained. In my mind, the job of men like Cooper is to act as a traffic cop and keep the flow of a fight going. I think he did that and everyone that witnessed that pitched battle benefited from it.

While there are rules and regulations that men like Cooper must enforce, the reality is that every referee interprets them a bit differently, like an umpire’s strike zone differs from that of his colleagues. But I firmly believe that while you can never change the fact that everyone will have slight variations to what they call, across the board, all officials should be briefed on points of emphasis (such as coming down on excessive holding in fights or what really constitutes a low blow) for the near future. They do it every year in other sports; it’s time boxing does the same.

But Mr. Cooper, my apologies. In the famous words of one Hank Stram: you did a helluva job, one helluva job (First down!).

Machismo is inherent to Pakistani/subcontinental Muslim culture.. If Pakistanis had alternatives I don't think Khan would be very popular at all
