Couldnt disagree more. Buffer is a cartoon of himself and is insanely egotistical.

    His professionalism is also chequered.

Yeah to be fair, Lennon seems a nice guy and all but Buffer fucking destroys him at his job, which is all I care about

Depends on the fighters for me.

Lennon Jr. was born to introduce guys like Tyson and Trinidad.

Tyson I agree with, definitely, the whole "Iron...Mii-eeeeke...Tysunnnnnnnn" was cool. Buffer still shits on him though, one of the coolest things was right at the end of the intro's of Lewis-Tyson when they were both doing the announcements, I thought they'd left it at Lennons "ITS SHOWTIME" and we weren't going to get Buffers tagline. Then when the line of bodyguards started leaving the ring Buffer just comes out with "And there's just one thing left to say...", thats when it was like, FUCK ITS ONNNNNN. Get me blud.

    Sorry but no.

Buffer gets me pumped regardless of who's fighting, he sounds and looks the part.

Lennon Jr makes me feel bored, drowsy, and annoyed.

I don't want an ugly ginger dork doing the announcing for any fighter, least of all Tyson.

And in future please don't mention an elite offensive machine like Tyson in the same sentence as Anvil Man.

I loved Buffers intro's for Hamed and Lewis, made many a boxing night.

"He really needs no introduction the world over... introducing, the ONE and ONLY, Iron Miiiiiiiiiiiike Tysonnnnnn"

He was awesome with Tito too, when he said Cupey Alto and really held the Titoooooooo

    Plus, he's classy as hell.

This is arguably the worst post in the history of Fightbeat.

Same. Different announcers for different fighters for sure.

Not surprised that Mex, who hasn't even heard of Ferdie Pacheco, doesn't have a soft spot for the 90s Showtime telecast.

I've absolutely heard of Pacheco, I know exactly who he is, I simply don't know enough about him to form an opinion. Same as Holly Holm.

Probably one of the best actually, due to its acute accuracy.

Anyone who prefers The Dorky Jimmy Lennon Jr to Buffer has problems.

It's like preferring Chavez Jr to Marquez.

The guy is a ginger dork, the only reason you're sticking up for him is you look a bit like him :kidcool:

His voice is weak and pathetic, he is ugly, he is ginger, and he has no presence or charisma.

Lennon Jr has always appeared blonde, not ginger, to me.

I don't prefer - I just think there's plenty of room for both.

Chuck Hall was the best anyway

I'm stunned that anyone would place a + next to Ferdie Pachecho's name. The man was a shit announcer and quite honestly one of the most bitter cunts I've ever met - in or out of boxing.

Agreed. Probably the worst announcer of my lifetime. I recently rewatched Pettway-Brown, disgraceful display of interviewing after that fight. He was a real piece of shit.

Pacheco was awful, and one of Ali's biggest apologists (which is saying something).

According to Ferdie, nothing was hurting McClellan in the Benn fight.

For my UK brethren, by far the best team we've had over here were Dempsey, Piper, Darke and McCrory.

Make no mistake, he's a ginger. He must often dye his hair blonde.

This post couldn't be more inaccurate. I'm not arguing preference - I understand why fans like Buffer to Lennon, for the same reason teenagers prefer action movies to films that actually matter.

    BUT...

Lennon is a genuine boxing fan, has a much better command of every other foreign language he's asked to speak, is as down to earth as they come, and does just fine behind the mic without trying to become bigger than (or even a part of) the event itself.

All that said - we voting on the people, or their roles in the sport? Getting confused the more I read this thread.

I like Jimmy Lennon... he has a different kind of announcer's voice... We typically picture the booming bass/baritone hybrid as the classic announcer's voice, but there have always been announcers with voices like Lennon's-- they are considered good because of the clarity and the treble in their more low-Tenor voices... Like Jake said, Lennon is there to do a job, not be the show himself

I'll take a guy who gives a flawless presentation with quiet confidence over a guy who looks like a Porno company CEO while shouting his silly catchphrases
