Chavez was unlike any other come forward Mexican in history though. HOWEVER..... you are correct. Not to sound racist but, Shane was indeed a Mexican killer. It seemed his style was built to handle "the Mexican style". I think it'd be a close fight. Of course its only a matter of time before someone points out "Shane never fought anyone near Chavez's level at 135" which is true. Still, he was a beast at 135 and stylewise and ability wise could definitely hang with Chavez. Shane's speed is a given to give Chavez trouble. And his physical STRENGTH cant be underestimated too. Chavez was a bull, but he'd find himself not being able to bull Mosley as he did other opponents. 135 was Chavez's best weight though, and I definitely think he'd have success and push Mosley to the limit. I see it as a 7-5 fight either way. Chavez is the greater fighter, but Mosley had the style to pull off the upset. At 135 I'd give Molsey virtually no chance against Duran, and Whitaker, but Chavez I could see him beating.
Agreed. I still favor Chavez slightly. Of many things that separate Julio from others was his ability to handle and neutralize hand speed. That's obviously key against Shane.
Chavez via clear UD Mosley would meet someone just as strong as him at the weight, and he wouldnt be comfortable with Chavez working him over on the inside. I dont see Mosley backing up Chavez at all and Shane isnt that effective going backwards. Julio was the smarter of the two imo and he throws the shorter, crisper shots in the trenches. Mosley gets off to a good start but Chavez wears him down and hurts him to the body, and Mosley starts to become less enthusiastic about fighting Chavez on the inside.
big size edge here for mosley. great fight. young mosley w12 toward the end of his lightweight reign i could see mosley getting stopped late by a peak chavez.
If it turns out Chavez winning the fight i think he could put some serious hurt on Mosley but i still don't think he stops him.
I don't know who wins. Part of me thinks Mosley wins because of his hand-speed. But part of me thinks he'd be too brave for his own good, and would wither down the stretch, having given too much of himself in the first half of the fight.
No matter who you have winning i think everybody would agree Mosley is ahead on points at the mid-way point.
Mosley is too dumb to win this... He leaves plenty of holes, and Chavez would find them... People talk about Mel Taylor being too trigger happy and forgetting his defense... Taylor looked like Nicolino Locche compared to Mosley... I could see SHane winning some early rounds with his quick hands, but eventually Chavez pulls even and then ahead, he's a much more skillfull guy
