Trinidad for sure at 154. I don't even think it would be competitive. Forrest poses greater problems at 147, but I can see Trinidad overcome a very rough start to eventually catch him late.
forrest beat mayorga in the rematch. according to most here at this website both of these men were nothing.
Vernon was a good boxer with a nice jab and straight right hand, but he was also very basic. Not especially fast handed, and didn't have much in terms of defense. Its just that his height and long jab were enough to prevent him from taking big shots for the most part. I don't think such a luxury exists against Trinidad. Sure Oscar at 147 had success with his jab, but I think it was more De La Hoya's MOVEMENT that didn't allow Trinidad to do his thing. Forrest has a great jab, but he's not particularly fast on his feet, and the pressure he would face from Trinidad would be unlike any pressure he's ever dealt with. Trinidad TKO 11 at 147 At 154, I think Trinidad gets him outta there even sooner. I don't think Forrest is durable enough to withstand the Trinidad assault.
You say that like it was some kind of robbery. In reality it was a 1-point swing either way, no gift for Mayorga at all. And this is ignoring the fact Mayorga blew him away first-up. Forrest is the ONLY half-way decent guy Mayorga ever beat (and he fought them all, getting bashed by Trinidad, De La Hoya, and eventually Mosley and Cotto), which speaks volumes of Forrest's thumping of Mosley. If ever there was a false dawn of a coming superstar, that was it. Just goes to show how over-rated Mosley was, circa-2002. Trinidad applies the necessary work-rate and pressure for the KO. Shall we say about eight rounds?
mayorga lost to most of those guys after he got his head knocked off by trinidad. at welterweight, when hungry and in shape he was a handful
How convenient -- and what a crock. How much does the fact De La Hoya insisted on a KO in his first bout with Mosley, and fought to a gameplan as such, detract from Mosley's victory (the only first-class victory of his near-20 year career, BTW), Neil? Excuses, excuses, right? Trinidad didnt ruin Mayorga. Mediocrity did. Forrest was the ONLY vaguely world-class guy Mayorga ever bested, because Mayorga was mediocre. A more hittable guy, you could not find this side of Riddick Bowe.
he fought a shitty, negative fight, faded and then lost to a far worse version of mosley than he faced the first go round.
Far worse? Is that why he was knowingly using PEDs? He beat your boy even on the gear, Neil. The whole forum knows who the better boxer, with the better career, was.
the whole forum knows who the richer, gayer boxer was. as far as im concerned mosley won all their fights, pro and amateur. if it were as simple as changing strategy why didnt your guy simply fight mosley in a rematch at welterweight? mosley even waited around for him but for some mystical reason your guy had no interest at that time. suddenly he wanted it after he saw mosley lose twice. go figure.
Now is this Trinidad with his wraps? Or without? Because without his wraps he's lucky to win four rounds. With? He pummels Forrest like he did Reid, battering his guard - hurting him with every punch he lands (although as with Reid, Vargas and others, he'll probably still manage to get knocked down).
Yes. I do. I've studied carefully Trinidad's career, and I've reached a point of being personally convinced that Trinidad cheated for much of his career. I'm not interested in convincing anyone else of it and don't blame anyone for not sharing my conclusion. But it's mine and I'm entitled to it, and it's not as if I've pulled it out of thin air. And for context, I should tell you that Trinidad was my favorite fighter for a long time. And with his wraps, he certainly was formidable, having developed his entire strategy and even his technique around optimizing the delivery of his artificially heavy punches.
Double, please stop ruining every Tito MM with this garbage. We get it, he loaded his wraps. Obviously, we're talking about the fighter that campaigned at 147 or 154. The with or without wraps question you keep asking is boring. Look at it this way - since he wasn't caught until Hopkins, at 160, EVERY Tito MM at 147 or 154 will be with wraps. There was no other Tito. With all due respect, fuck off.
:: alright. heretofore i've not missed many opportunities to insert my stance on trinidad and the fact his success ended with his illegal wraps. from now on, i'll bring it up only sparingly.
To be honest, Mosley looked much better in their 1st fight than the rematch. Mosley hardly threw any punches in that rematch and he only came on strong when Oscar as usual would fade late. Whatever gear he was on sure didnt help him imo.
Who would you say won the bout, Rock? Its not as though De La Hoya peaked as a 30-year-old 154lber, BTW. Mosley has this over-rated reputation based on ONE great or near-great win over a tactically-poor De La Hoya, and Hut, for one, has already opined that result hinged in no small part on that fact. My conclusion is Mosley simply wasnt so great as people thought to begin with. What had he really lost in real terms between the two De La Hoya bouts?
Double L is right about Trinidad. He is 100% correct. People like him better than that greasebag Margarito but he, in essence, did the same thing on a lesser level. I am not directly comparing the two. Tito's entire career should be zero'D out. His wraps clearly were the reason he was winning, although his cheating still couldn't help him win a round versus DLH. Once he got caught he fought Cheriefi and stopped him. He then quit like a cunt. He came back and needed 100 flush shots to stop a welterweight punchingbag in Mayorga. He then couldn't dissuade either Winky or Jones with a single punch. Winky literally walked through him. As for Forrest, I loved him technically. He had zero intangibles, a shaky chin and no power. He also had led feet. Wraps or no wraps, I think Trinidad OUT works him for a UD or tko late. Vernon didn't have the power in the jab or right hand to stop tito, nor the footwork to run all night. Honestly, even without Wraps, Tito could punch a bit. I can't see Forrest winning. P.S FUCK CHEATO TRINIDAD.
