Who is left for JDS to fight ? Frank Mir comes to mind I guess . They should give him an easy fight next so his title shot isn't derailed . Then who? JDS ain't fighting Big Nog no matter what. Cain rematch won't sell . Not yet by the way. Not after JDS killed him in a minute already. Travis Browne? Cmon. Cheick Kongo? Cmon...Heavyweight division will suck badly in a year.
Don't go crazy. Cain is still a very viable opponent. His Mexican following will ALWAYS make a rematch sell. And I like a future bout with the Daniel Cormier/Josh Barnett winner. With another win, Mir probably deserves a title shot but I don't think it would be easy to sell as Mir always folds in big fights. On top of that, my guess is that Mir-Cain are matched in 2012 in an eliminator. And then, in about a year, we will be anticipating the huge rematch between JDS and Cain. Beyond that, who knows, maybe Jon Jones decides to move up.
Cormier could challange for the title in two years time I could see that but Barnett ? No no no Dana will never let the roid head in UFC it's bad for their image. Jon Jones vs JDS would be a mega fight though for sure and I can see it going down in 2013. That would be huge. By then Jon will clear out 205 division and JDS will clear out the heavyweight. Awesome fight and of course JDS kills him dead.
if overeem beats JDS, is he the baddest MMA fighter merely based on the fact that he's a heavyweight who's won virtually every championship available including dream, k-1, strikeforce, and ufc belts?
fuck Mir, he's turned into an obvious juicer like overeem. I like JDS a lot, but he's beatable. There aren't many megafights for the winner of overeem/jds...perhaps a rematch, perhaps lesnar if he ever decides to do it the right way, perhaps Cain, certainly Jones if he stays unbeaten. The main problem is that it's hard to cash out in mma because you don't get paid shit. Who's going to call out Jones at heavy? No one. UFC has to do all of the matchmaking on its own. They do a good job of it, but there is certainly no incentive for their own champions to call out the toughest challenges.
Yeah, there's no need because their champions are ALWAYS matched against the next ranked guy in the division. If it was the boxing model, JDS could now just fight a string of cans and MAYBE eventually get stripped of one of 35 titles. No fear because he could still make bank for fighting another can for another belt. Yes, that's a much better model than one that forces him to fight the absolutely next best guy in the division for 6 figures.
