His confidence is absolutely shot. I think we've been playing him in too advanced a role - his strength was in arriving late, unmarked. We've been using him as a targetman for the past 18 months, so he constantly has his back to goal while that lazy shite Saha wanders about.
I can't believe Hodgson ever thought Scharner was good enough for you lot. I hate Scharner - always seem to slot against us so it was especially sweet to see him at fault for the goal.
He thought Kon-Chesky was good enough, and Fat King Cole too. Apparently the move broke down and Scharner had something nasty to say about Liverpool fans or something too. Was Fellaini suspended/injured today? Ah, I see Fergie time applies at Sunderland too. :: Not only did the useless bastards not win, but I lost my predo point.
Well we've seen it before- one team pressing and is caught out. Its why I still said {and it is in this thread somewhere} that United were still my favourite for the title even right after the loss to City. Too much experience. Its one thing to not win but to lose in the final minute? Not something a team that is locked-on for the title would do. If Liverpool can go there and win this week, it blows the entire thing wide open, just for what it is worth. Cue more comments about that rotten Septuagenarian and his fucking Birthday and the ex Man United back 4 at Sunderland.
Well Hodgson became Liverpool manager on July 1st and Cole signed on July 18th. Now- Christian Purslow may have been involved, but Roy was definitely manager. Of course, if he wasn't making the signings then ....well.....figure it out.
Ironically, they are no worse off than 3 days ago, and turned in a far better performance than United did on their own patch vs Blackburn. I think Liverpool can do them and open this race up for real.
What a huge game this is today against Norwich. If results don't go our way, we could be in the bottom 3. If results go our way, we could go 5 points clear.
RIP Gary Ablett. Cancer is a whore. As a fat asthmatic kid who could barely run 100 yards before collapsing, you see these guys and you marvel at their ability to run and keep going. You never foresee yourself having rude good health and them being bed-ridden, in what seems like a blink of an eye. Ablett had a short stint at Liverpool in the Academy and is also one of a very short list of players to have played for both Merseyside clubs {Beardsley and Barmby are others}
Barton just tweeted to say that the officials approached him at half time and admitted the didn't see the incident. :dunno: Good results were not entirely forthcoming for "other" relegation threatened sides, so all is not lost, Jimmy.
Barton allegedly used his head, shoving it in a Norwich players face. I couldn't see the incident from my seat, but seems harsh to give him a straight red. The ref lost control of the game and tackles were flying in all over the place. We can blame the ref, the linesmen and whoever else, but at the end of the day we didn't convert our chances - and with 10 men, we created very good chances.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/philmcnulty/2012/01/gary_ablett_-_a_lovely_man_who.html Nice piece on the man.
Taarabt's performance today was his best in an Rs shirt this season. He caused so many problems. Held the ball up so well and split their defense open with one great pass time after time. Nearly scored from a free kick.
And if Wolves had held out, Liverpool would have had a rare chance to pump it on up to the nosebleed territory that is 4th. If Liverpool get it right this January, who knows. I think, ultimately, 4th is probably beyond Liverpool- a combination of this thick bigoted ban on Suarez, too many home draws, and the still-gelling new acquisitions. But January is a big chance to promote the development from without. Allegedly, Commoli was in Dortmund today. I think Liverpool can manage 5th and even 6th would see them back in Europe if they can get to Wembley and win. Just saw the Barton thing, not a red, in my opinion.
Martin "Gyllenhall/Morrissey" Kelly tweeted today that when he was 17, Ablett rang him and told him to report to Melwood for 1st team pre-season training in 2007. Liverpool were that years beaten finalists in the European Cup. He probably regards that phone call and the voice on the other end as synonymous with the upward swing in his career and therefore his standard of living etc. To be told that that voice was dead must have taken him aback a bit. Time flies. In the 2007/2008 season Everton pushed Liverpool all the way for 4th...now neither of them are really at the races.
