What criteria accounts for whom you root for?

  1. For me it's PROVEN talent. I always root for the best guys to continue winning.

I didn't anticipate there could be such a thing as a wrong answer in this topic. But yours is just plain wrong.

Nothing I can put my finger on. I like a bunch of different fighters for a bunch of different reasons.

  4. :giggle:

    Guys I have rooted for:

    Jones
    Hopkins
    Calzaghe
    Mayweather
    Ali
    Tyson
    Wlad
    Vitali
    Nunn
    Lewis

Most of them is because of their talent. I want to continue to see them fighting to see that amazing talent on display so i root for them.

Vitali, though, is just because I like him for some reason. He seems like a good guy.

Good job at that introspection thing.

There's nothing I really look for. I guess, if I had to throw something out there, I don't really like guys who look unnatural or uncomfortable in the ring.

It'd be an interesting study to see just how predictive talent is of overall success. I bet it's no more predictive than a host of other factors such as dedication or height.

Much like his hero Floyd, Sly is a safety first fan. He can't be bothered to root for a guy who might lose. He probably jumped off the RJJ bandwagon before Roy's head hit the canvas in the Tarver fight.

Which would mean, at that point in time, that Sly had better reflexes than Roy.

  11.

    That's genius.

  12. Truthfully though. I jumped off the Roy Bandwagon when he fought like a pussy in the 3rd Tarver fight. I can't stand seeing a once great champion CELEBRATE over having merely lasted the distance. He didn't even try to win. At that point I wanted him to retire.

As soon as great fighters are shot, mentally and/or physically, I want them to retire....instead of continuing to damage their legacy.

When would you have liked to see Ali retire?

Assuming you followed boxing actively at the time (maybe you did, maybe you didn't), at what point would you have stopped rooting for Ali? As you did RJJ following the third Tarver fight?

  14. I stopped following Ali after he lost to Holmes. I was very young at the time though. But had I been the age I am now I would have root for him right up until the end of the Holmes fight (although i would have probably wanted him to remain retired after the 2nd fight with Spinks).

You sure it would not have been following his loss to Frazier?

It was just sad what happened to Roy. He had one of the hardest falls from grace I have ever seen. How many guys in history go from being as dominant as he was to getting KTFO in every fight? It's crazy.

It would have been when Clay was on his way to canvas against Sonny Banks

  19. Never!!

I was still a Hopkins fan after he lost twice to Jermain Taylor. Check the history.

The guy's heart just simply isnt in the sport anymore. Lack of passion and motivation is blatently obvious to me. What do they day "Its hard to get out of bed when you wear silk pajamas?" or something like that?

No. I wasn't a massive fan of Eubank or Benn, and I hated Bruno, despised Hatton. I'm fair, and probably the least biased poster here.

Hard to believe his heart isn't in it given that he fights on the way he does even though he sucks. Is the guy broke?

That's a good list Sly, I know it's not in any particular order but Hopkins should always be below Calzaghe. Otherwise, good stuff.
