Seldon became a walking joke after the Tyson farce, but at his best he was a good boxer with speed, solid punch and good boxing technique, and he would have beaten several world champions and titlists head to head. Seldon KOs Dempsey in the early rounds. They don't belong in the same ring
Thank you. I also see this. Seldon threw the Tyson fight . He was actually just a tad better than that.
That would imply that I was surprised. I wasnt exaggerating in the other thread. Dempsey's next assignment is Rocky Sekorski.
holyfield would give dempsey, the best dempsey, an absolute ass whipping. i am referring to holyfield circa the kevin barry fight.
In much the same way I'd take the current west brom team to beat the Italy 38 team without hesitation. Because my eyes are for more than reading rhapsodical written accounts with.
Seldon No one is going to write books about Seldon, and nobody ought to. People have written books about Dempsey, and deservedly so. But the sport Dempsey took part in bears little resemblance to the one Seldon took part in. It's that simple.
Dempsey was a bad ass & an innovator. And cool looking. But he was fighting guys who'd never seen a proper left hook in an era where throwing a power punch usually meant throwing yourself around the ring to get weight behind it
You don't think a championship or low-premiership standard team would hump the best 1930s team?:dunno: I think the current Celtic team would beat the 1967 team easily, never mind a 30s team
:: Fair enough. Well QPR would certainly beat the great Italian team of the 30s They'd play an occasional 1-2, run when they don't have the ball & play more than one defender. 'WHAT DEMONRY IS THIS!?'::
This You know what era I couldn't say that about automatically? anytime from the 40s on to Tubbs' time It has nothing to do with television... Ezzard Charles looks more skillful than any guy out there right now or in Tubbs' time... Gene Tunney simply does not
A few examples of Tunney throwing a proper left hook......or even any proper, short turned over shot which doesn't rely on throwing his whole momentum around to generate power. Or a few good Tunney combos which don't basically involve flailing weight back and forth from foot to foot....might convince me Tubbs is only only 100x more skillful.
You want examples and evidence? Here it is From "Ten And Out!" by Alexander Johnston 1927 http://www.harrygreb.com/tunneymagarticleswritten.html
God this exchange made me laugh. If I knew how, I'd make demonry my custom title in honor of you gents. ::
Come on now. Sure Dempsey was crude compared with modern fighters but now people are suggesting that he'd lose to every single post 30s titlist which is just ludicrous.
