Yeah I can't imagine just sitting there in the dark watching a boxing match in complete silence. I'd feel like a fucking mentalist.

I don't really pay attention to commentary, but when they get it right and capture the moment it really adds to the viewing experience, which is why Ian Darke is my favourite boxing commentator.

Personally, I'll side with the contingent turning the sound OFF.

It influences me more when I drink, which I how I love to watch the big fights the first time. At a bar, with friends, lots of beer and wings.

    It's like an autopsy:lol:

I'll give Watt credit though, he tried hard. He sponged some awful punishment and never quit.

Exactly, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Haha, indeed. It would be a pretty depressing, pathetic way of watching boxing.

I couldn't give a shit what the commentators say. I generally ignore what they are saying, and only really listen out for Merchant's awesome quips and anecdotes.

Having the sound of the crowd, the punches, the corner, and just everything, adds to the experience of watching a fight, especially if it's a big fight. Turning it off would be absurd, and like cdogg said, if you're really influenced by what someone like Lampley says, or a total moron like Bernstein, then there's really no hope for you doing a better job of deciphering a fight with the sound off.

What next, turn the picture off too for the true boxing purist experience and just "feel" the fight?

This is the proper way knowledgable boxing fans do it. You don't have to "see" or "hear" the fight.

Like Emmanuel Steward i already know what's going to happen.

A little know fact about Steward, he records his commentary before the fight and they just dub it in later.

It is fair. He lost fair and square by KO to two inferior opponents. It irritates me when fans of a fighter try to dismiss or minimize embarrasing losses to inferior opponents that don't work for them. (not that you were doing that).

Losing to Moorer is just as disgraceful as losing to Rahman or Mccall. At least they were heavyweights with some pop. Holyfield got outworked by a very mentally weak fighter. Holyfield himself was humiliated making up a heart condition like the brain dead sod he is. Honestly, losing to Moorer is way worse than losing on two single punches in the heavyweight division. Lewis got caught. Holyfield got broken and essentially quit or at least didn't try his best over 12 rounds by a very average heavyweight with no chin and less heart.Lennox Lewis would eat MM 1000/1000 times and 1000 by kayo.

Ugh. The losses to McCall and Rahman were way worse. And nice spin on the Moorer fight. We may have to change EskVision to IrishVision.

I personally am never influenced by commentators, but what sucks is when the people you're watching a fight with are. I think most here can probably identify with that situation..

It would be ikevision ,you fucking mook. I think it is a debatable point. I am know Lewis fan really either although he was a superior fighter to Holyfield in everyway both against each other and career wise. Me thinks, you are a Holyfield fan. Tell me how losing and not even trying against Moorer, isn't a disgraceful loss. For fuck's sake he faked heart conditions in the ring!!

Holyfield may have the better HW resume in terms of fighters faced, but Lewis is the greater HW. And beats Holyfield H2H in their primes. 7-5, 8-4 type decision.
