To be honest, very few boxing matches are re-watchable to me. Knowing the results kills everything for me. Live is the only way to go. Which is why I'm also not much of a boxing historian. I'm more of a what I have seen live boxing guy. You don't see me in too many old timer discussions.

I watched a lot of MMA at the start of the year but my interest really started to drop. Most fights i watched were filled with hype but delivered very little.

It's not just me either PPV buys are down 40% from 2010 in 2011.

Agreed on this. I just don't enjoy it. Nothing against the sport as a whole.

I had never thought of this and it is an excellent point. One of the most compelling things about boxing is the guy that pulls himself off the canvas after a knockdown and either guts out the rest of the fight or comes back for the win. We use it to determine heart in boxing.

    Good call S_D. :bears:

    Thanks. :bears:

For that reason alone, I'd argue it's impossible for the best MMA fights to be as good as thebest boxing matches.

Of which they're are none anymore...(unless you apply your logic in the same way as cdogg's Top 10 guitarists from TAAA ), which leads us back to:
    "Wow boxing sure is dead..."

Amir Khan is a good example of what is wrong with boxing. Khan does not grasp, not even tangentially, the concept of being great within the sport. He regards boxing strictly as a means to a financial end. For most jobbers or club-fighters, that is a reasonable sentiment. £1000 here, £500 there, dreams of big arenas and big fights.

For guys like Khan, this is not acceptable. He has not tried to be great. Everything reeks of opportunism, maximizing his returns, diminishing his opponents returns. Fights are regarded merely as financial opportunities rather than events through which some long-term merit within the game might be garnished.

Everything for Khan is about PR and glitter rather than anything of any substance.

By way of an example, think no further of Ricky Hatton- a millionaire many times over, with all the money he needs, hammering his shot self into shape to go to America and fight Manny Pacquaio.

You can't see Khan doing that right now, much less when he is past his best.

I dunno about that. I'd rate Marquez-Pacquiao 3 over any MMA fight in history or yet to come.

I know you must being sarcastic, but in case anyone takes you seriously:

Amir Khan is 25 years old and has fought in 7 title bouts, including a unification bout. 4 times he has fought in the United States. He is 26-2, although should be 27-1 with typical reffing and better judging, or perhaps 26-1-1. Khan has ducked no one and has called out the best p4p fighter in the world more than once.

Ricky Hatton, by age 25, was 36-0, had fought no world title bouts, had just fought an IBF eliminator against the fearson Michael No Joke Stewart, and had fought in the United States 3 times against no hopers early in his career and once in Germany against another no-hoper.

Kostya Tszyu did not know who Ricky Hatton was at this point in Hatton's career. Everyone knows who Khan is and have known for quite some time.

Hatton crushes Khan in one important area, however. He was far more likable than Khan.

MMA is more like a real fight than boxing in pretty much every way. The mandatory 8 count in boxing being a prime example of why.

Just because it more resembles a real fight doesnt make it more entertaining. The lack of an 8 count which results in "the first one who gets off" in many cases is what turns me off in many instances.

Yeah, and the point still being made is 'boxing sure is dead'...and not, as everyone has jumped on, "boxing isn't as good as MMA".

The fact that Marquez-Pacquiao III is mentioned in a positive light merely adds weight to the OP's thread...who do we have to look forward to in the next 6 months?
    Berto v Ortiz?
    Alexander v Maidana?
Or maybe either of the Klitschko's next one-sided blow-outs?

That's fine. Boxing is a sport first and foremost.
