The Forrest that beat Mosley the 1st time vs the Curry that obliterated McCrory.... who wins? IMO, even though Forrest was a good deal better than McCrory, I still think the Cobra woulda caught Vern and taken him out in under 6 rounds.
Curry had two flaws: 1. Shaky chin 2. very questionable desire over the long haul but it wont matter... at his best, he hammers Forrest... Vernon lasts a while because he isnt fragile the way McCrory was, but he still gets picked apart... Curry's defense was superb and he had a dazzling command of every punch in the book... from a technical standpoint, a mechanical standpoint, it doesnt get a whole lot better than Donald Curry, he just didnt always have the mentality or toughness of a great fighter and that is what kept him from having the career and legacy his skills seemed to almost guarantee
I'd say the Forrest that beat Mosley the first time probably would win by UD. Any other version of Forrest probably loses to Curry.
Curry's one of those guys who is hugely overrated. Hugely. He couldn't do shit at 154, and has basically one signature win at 147. As impressive as that win was, it was against McCrory, a guy who went on to do all of nothing. But for some reason, maybe because SRL was rumored to be afraid of him, maybe because he was ranked P4P #1 for a minute, he's viewed as this ultimate fighter, but when I watch him, even in his victories, I see a fragile fighter who tends to be sloppy, and who wasn't all that difficult to hit.
See. When your response is an emotional one, like this, it validates my point. You're actually frustrated by the idea someone would say such a thing about your beloved Curry. And I don't know what you mean exactly by, "hands down," but if it means to say Curry wins in anything other than a competitive contest, then I think you're wrong. When your pick sounds more like the recital of a rule than a thoughful response, it's a clue that one of the fighters in question is over-rated. I think Curry would have trouble getting close to Forrest, and by trouble, I mean that he'd be countered. One of Curry's chronic mistakes was to lunge and be off balance when he attacked, and it'd give Forest all the opportunity he'd need to counter. You can say all you want about Forrest's power being over-rated, but he was certainly powerful enough to hurt Curry. Honestly, this fight would not have looked all that differet from Forrest/Mosley, with Curry having the same kind of problem that Mosley did.
I give Vernon a shot here, and believe the fight would last all 12. However, I see Curry at some point landing something fight-altering, and dominating the second half against a reluctant Forrest to take a clear decision.
Vernon had two flaws: 1. Wasn't a champion in the 80s 2. Wasn't a champion in the 80s All jokes aside..Vernon's patient and is not a murderous puncher and as such Curry gets the decision.
you're forgetting too that his signature win didn't come against Milton McCrory. i guess the fact Vernon wasn't KO'd 5 times hurts him as well.
If a skill-less bum like Ricardo Mayorga can stop Forrest, certainly Curry can. He didn't just "stop" Milton McCrory, he destroyed him effortlessly with perfect punches. The gulf between Forrest and McCrory (if there really is one) is a stream at best If he can get Milton out of there inside of 5 minutes, it's certainly not crazy to pick him to get Forrest out in 8
If that's your reason, there's more evidence to suggest Forrest beats Curry by KO, than the for Curry to KO Forrest. Plus, I think Forrest is better than McCrory. And I'd be shocked if anyone disagreed with this. I honestly can't understand the perception that Curry was some great fighter.
Curry's wins over LaRocca and Jones were also extremely impressive, especially the latter. Jones was a very decent fighter indeed. MTF
word. Forrest almost stopped steel chinned Mosley and Mosley was virtually as good a fighter as Curry....but with a better chin.
Underrated? That is absolutely absurd. Vernon's best victories were over the most overrated fighter in the history of the sport, the one hit wonder, salty shame Mosely. Vernon lot by Kayo and decision to Ricardo Mayorga. He also lost to the Latin Fake. Forrest was not very good. I would even say he is a level below Trinidad. RIP Vernon sorry for the insult.
Don't have one. Didn't really watch him. I liked Heavies and lightheavies only in the 80's. I hear Neil likes him though for obvious, homosexual reasons.
I thought he was pretty good. I agree that Trinidad was better though. Trinidad was a good fucking fighter :bears:
Curry's 2nd fight with Starling and his fight with McCrory are good examples. Curry is just a different caliber fighter. Anything Forrest does, Curry does it better with more speed and power. Just a much better fighter.
