Has anyone read this? It's a collection of works by Pierce Egan published originally in 1812. About his experiences roaming around watching the bare knuckle boxers of his day. I believe there are five or six editions. I just picked up a copy of the first edition (everyone should buy something from Nobleart great service experience all around) and I'm going to start skimming it tonight. Not exactly an easy read, but I find this old stuff really fascinating, if not completely full of shit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boxiana
Our sports team got to work with a production on a programme about this kind of stuff. I was a bit pissed I wasn't involved, really interesting.
Fuck knows actually, good question. I was working like a motherfucker on some shitty Royal Wedding programme at the time :: . I'll ask them tomorrow.
I read it in High School, and it was really dated way back then. Those fighters back then didn't even know what they were doing, and A.J. Liebling kept quoting Egan is "The Sweet Science" as that was just about the only boxing book out at that time.
Yeah, I've read The Sweet Science... that's where I found out about Boxiana. Still, dated or not, it'll still be fun to poke through.
