DeNiro in Mean Streets. One of his best, most electric, and believable performances.

  2. Nobleart

    Nobleart Narwhal King

    Robert Downey Jr. in "Restoration"

De Niro was also excellent in The King of Comedy. That performance/movie gets overlooked, maybe because you wouldn't expect it to be a dark film and satire about celebrity, but it's another top-notch performance from him.

  10. "oh my god...it even has a watermark"

  11. Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Basterds.

Ok...now I know that he received a great deal of critical acclaim and also won the Academy award for the role....but even with all of that I STILL think the magnificence of the performance is overlooked...as it was that good.

Best acting performance that I have actually seen, ever. Anyone that doesn't have that performance in thei rtop 3 all time has underrated it.

Good lord Sly. If he and Fassbender were ever in the same movie I think you'd have a coronary.................oh wait, they were.

I like Tarantino, but Basterds was a disappointment to me.

Waltz was excellent in it, but let's not get carried away.

  13. :l2:

    Waltz! Fassbender! :bears:

With "Basterds" I wasn't expecting much and that's why I loved it so much.

    THE BEAR JEW.

Brad Pitt was also excellent in that movie.

Lt. You are getting good at that.

Lt. Aldo Raine: [Drawing a map] Up the road apiece, there's a orchard. Now, besides you, we know there's another kraut patrol fuckin' here somewhere. Now if that patrol were to have any crackshots, that orchard would be a goddamn sniper's delight. Now if you ever want to eat a sauerkraut sandwich again, you gotta show me on this map where they are, you gotta tell me how many there are, and you gotta tell me what kinda artillery they're carrying with 'em.
Sgt. Werner Rachtman: You can't expect me to divulge information that would put German lives in danger?
Lt. Aldo Raine: Well Werner, that's where you're wrong, because that's exactly what I expect. I need to about Germans hiding in them trees, and you need to tell me, and you need to tell me. And you need to tell me right now. Now take your finger and point out on this map where this party's being held, how many's coming, and what they brought to play with.
Sgt. Werner Rachtman: I respectfully refuse.
Lt. Aldo Raine: [a smack is heard offscreen] Here that? That's Sgt. Donny Donowitz. But you might know him better by his nickname. The Bear Jew. Now, if you heard of Aldo the Apache, you gotta have heard of the Bear Jew.
Sgt. Werner Rachtman: I have heard of the Bear Jew.
Lt. Aldo Raine: What did you hear about him, Werner?
Sgt. Werner Rachtman: He beats German soldiers with a club
Lt. Aldo Raine: He bashes their brains in with a baseball bat is what he does. Now, Werner, I'm gonna ask you one more goddamn time, and if you still "respectfully refuse," I'm callin' the Bear Jew over here, and he's gonna take that big-ole bat of his, and he's gonna beat you to death with it. Now take your wiener schnitzel lickin' finger and point out on this map what I want to know.
    Sgt. Werner Rachtman: Fuck you.
    [pause]
Sgt. Werner Rachtman: And your Jew dogs!
    [the Basterds all laugh]
Lt. Aldo Raine: Actually, Werner, we're all tickled to here you say that. Frankly, watchin' Donny beat Nazis to death is is the closest we ever get to goin' to the movies.
    [Calling offscreen]
    Lt. Aldo Raine: DONNY!
Sgt. Donny Donowitz: [From offscreen] Yeah?
Lt. Aldo Raine: We got a German here who wants to die for his country! Oblige him!

    Christops Waltz' performance overlooked? Lol.

Without that role he would be nobody, because of it he is everyone's favorite 'foreign actor.

  17. My post was largely tongue in cheek, sorry that this was wasted on you. It was my way of emphasizing how great a performance it was.

Melanie Laurent was superb in that film too, a close second after Christophe.

Who was better? Please don't say Brad Pitt

Melanie played her role perfectly, no other actress could have done a better job in this particular role.

Pitt was way better. Are you kidding me? Sly's boyfriend was better too.

Are you kidding me? Pitt? He was the worst thing about the film. I don't dislike the guy, but jesus, he can't act. He's a clown.

Let me put it to you like this, every single scene Pitt is in, you can tell he's acting. He's not believable.

He can be amusing, and he was amusing at times in Basterds, but you can always tell he's acting. That's not the mark of a good actor. The mark of a good actor is when they seamlessly blend into their character and allow you to be fully engrossed in the film, without being conscious that you're simply watching an actor.

Christoph and Melanie both fit that bill perfectly, they were highly convincing. The father in the beginning scene was also far more convincing than Pitt.

Saying Pitt was better than Laurent in that film is like saying Ben Stiller is better than De Niro, it's nonsensical.

I stopped reading after you said Pitt cant act.

  26. mexican wedding shirt

mexican wedding shirt The Greatest of Are Times

He can't. Read further and you'll see why.

You can always tell he's acting, he's never believable.

If you think Pitt is a good actor I don't even know what to say. You have no taste. It's like saying a Big Mac is better than a fillet steak.

  27. Anthony

    Anthony Admin Staff Member

The whole movie is basically a parody of time man.

That being said, you think pitt cant act and i have disagree with you there. I wont even debate the subject with you. We can end this right here.

  28. mexican wedding shirt

mexican wedding shirt The Greatest of Are Times

It depends on your view of acting.

If you think Pitt is funny or charming and you enjoy watching him that's one thing, and that's obviously down to taste.

But to objectively say he's a good, convincing actor in the same way that someone like De Niro was in his heyday is just insanity.

You can always tell he's acting, it's as simple as that, he brings me out of the illusion the film is striving to create.

Pitt is a better actor than Tom Cruise has ever been, and I'm not even saying he's that good.
