Not to mention how cheesy the whole production looked from Jones jitters and inability to look away from his notes to the lame WWE style pre fight interviews of Chael and Bisping.
My friend and I switched back and forth between UFC and the NHL skills competition. Both were awful. Cage fighting is rarely good TV.
Man, ain't that the truth. They put 4 Division 1 wrestlers in the 3 Main Card fights. That was a recipe for boring. The FUEL undercard fights were decent scraps but the FOX card was just bad MMA. First, Joe Rogan described the Maia-Weidman bout perfectly when he said they looked like two drunks fighting outside a bar at 2AM. That was some of the most sloppy stand-up I've seen in the UFC in a LONG time. I'll give Weidman a little slack because I guess he cut 37 pounds in 9 or 10 days, but Maia is just awful. Remember when he was a fun BJJ threat? I didn't mind Sonnen-Bisping too much. For me I was waiting to see if Bisping could land anything meaningful before getting taken down. He really didn't. He has zero power and isn't dangerous in any aspect of the game. I might be in the minority but I thought Sonnen got the better of the stand-up as well. I give Sonnen credit. The dude is relentless in his attack. But Davis-Evans took the cake. That was the most sleep inducing 25 minutes I've seen. Davis was slow, lethargic, sloppy and just trying to survive. Meanwhile Rashad was almost afraid to push the pace to try and finish. Just a dismal fight.
Yeah, he seemed so uncomfortable. The dude is articulate and normally decent behind the mic. He made Kenny Florian look like Bob Costas.
You were probably still moving from ebonics to English back when the first FOX card happened so I will recap. I slammed the UFC back then for not showing the Bendo-Guida fight on FOX. I call it exactly like I see it whether it's positive or negative for the UFC.... I know that's a tough concept for your trolling ass...
wasnt really a full card. It was one fight. And it was for the Heavyweigh title. Sure after the fight everyone complained but before everyone was stoked for it.
Decent Card...Not Something REED would REwatch, but Relatively Enjoyable Upon 1st Viewing... REED had ZERO Interest in the Maia Fight, so he Skipped Right Past It...REED had Bisping Winning the Sonnen Fight & Rashad Completely OUTCLASSED Davis... REED:mj:
[1] Guida is the prototype lay and pray boring fighter. He should stay away from any telecasts where you are trying to get new fans. [2] You make sure you don't see it when it comes to fighters' pay. Implausible deniability, let's call it. Otherwise, I agree that the criticism of the first Fox telecast is typical hindsight BS. That was probably the best fight they could have shown new viewers on paper. The mistake was ignoring that shit happens in mma and doing so much hyping and ignoring the risk of turning off new fans if the fight didn't live up to the massive hype. And it didn't live up to the hype and it did turn off new fans. And last night's Fox telecast was decent on paper, but it also mostly tanked in reality. Sonnen, Davis, and Weidman are all talented and watchable and all got tired and sucked, primarily because of the weight cut, I assume. Well, Sonnen can be a bore to watch, but he usually has more energy than what he showed.
REED, I could watch mma and boxing with you brother. That is exactly how I saw it. I sat on the couch a few cold ones in front of me, a bag of chips, and my son. Turned on the DVR, and thought the same thing. I deleted it out of the DVR when it was over, but enjoyed it. I had Sonnen winning, but I think my bias against Bisping is well noted . Rashad should have put Davis away. He knew it after the fight as well. But still thought it was worth seeing.
Hate to say it but bisping was robbed, didn't one judge have it 30-27 wtf.. Btw UFC on fox is shit I don't like this new setup
Sonnen's schtick was particularly pathetic. In the past, his schtick has been somewhat amusing, but yesterday he seemed like a poor caricature of himself. Undefeated? Cigarette label warning? Stupid and poorly done, like a bad Sat Night Live skit.
Man, you say you watch MMA and then you make a comment like this. Guida has won 'Fight of the Night" 5 times in his UFC career. He also has 2 'Submission of the Night" awards. And his 2009 fight with Diego Sanchez won the UFC's "Fight of the Year". In all, Guida's only gone to a decision 14 times in 41 fights. But the really icing on your stupidity cake is claiming Guida shouldn't be around a telecast where you're trying to get new fans. His fight with Henderson was one of the top 2 or 3 fights of the year and was on the non-Fox portion of the UFC's first fight on FOX. It 100% was the kind of fight that should have been televised. Hindsight my ass. I said it weeks before the JDS-Cain bout that the UFC was making a mistake not showing Guida-Bendo.. Dude, you're seriously the most uninformed poster on this site. Everytime you type a sentence you look more and more inept.
I find Sonnen really entertaining myself. He reminds me of Pro Wrestlers in the 80's like Flair or Dusty. I don't think he truly believes half of what he says; it's just entertainment/marketing.
I think he's funny but not because what he says is funny but rather because he has just become comical as a 'character'. I give the guy credit though. His mouth and his ability to compete at the highest level has earned him a spot in one of the biggest possible fights for 2012. And make no mistake about it, he will still be hell for Anderson Silva. Developing take down defense to thwart a guy like Sonnen isn't going to happen this late in Silva's career. He will have big problems keeping this fight standing just like the first time. That being said, 25 minutes with Silva is still dangerous for anyone.
Sonnen lost that fight. The guy who scored it 30-27 should never judge again. I cannot stand how much credit guys seem to get just for a takedown, when they do nothing with it and the other guy pops right back up. I had Bisping winning 2-1 in rounds. A shutout for Sonnen is a fucking joke.
You guys have to admit I was right about Bisping. I've been saying for a while he's a decent fighter and at least top 10 in his division. Most of you even disagreed he was even top 10, that's insane imo, clearly there's not 10 guys who are going to beat him at middleweight. Most of you considered Sonnen an elite fighter, one of the very best in the division, and Bisping arguably just beat him.
I thought Sonnen won. Bisping did very little in my opinion. And the most dominant portion of the fight was Round 3 in which Bisping was mounted and also had Sonnen on his back. Maybe I missed something but I don't think Bisping was clearly better in the stand up. My scoring mentality is always different than the judges but I thought 1 and 2 were draws with neither guy clearly having an advantage. And Sonnen clearly won round 3. 10-10, 10-10, and 10-9 is the way this fight should have been scored. I still think there are at least 10 MW's that I'd pick to beat Bisping. The dude lost to Wanderlai Silva for goodness sake. Think about this.. Over the last 5 years, the only guys Silva has been able to beat were Keith Jardine and Michael Bisping. Maybe Sonnen is just overrated a bit. (By the way, Silva also beat Cung Le but.......)
Sonnen is very overrated. He's as boring as any fighter in history and he's a one trick pony. All he does is lay on guys, and he can only finish guys like Stann who just aren't even close to the top level.
Probably a bit of both to be honest, Bisping underrated and Sonnen overrated. Either way, Sonnen is a guy that was handling Silva clearly for over 4 rounds, he can obviously fight, and at worst Bisping fought on even terms with him. After this fight I don't think you can say Bisping isn't top 10. The Wandy fight was a fluke, maybe he was awe struck by the legendary Wandy or something. I would pick Bisping in a rematch.
It is odd that Sonnen was a virtually unstoppable take down machine UNTIL he gets popped for juicing. And then in his very next fight, he struggles to get Bisping to the mat. Hmmmmm.
And the Henderson fight was a lucky punch. Let's be honest. Since moving to 185 Bisping has faced two fighters that were top 10 guys. He was knocked absolutely cold by Henderson and lost a decision, albeit close, to Sonnen. Bisping is a good fighter and he is borderline top 10 in my opinion. I don't think he's beaten anyone that makes him a slam dunk top 10.
The Henderson fight wasn't even close to being a lucky punch, Hendo was looking for the right hand constantly and Bisping was moving towards it :: He would crush Bisping again, but then again Hendo is awesome. Bisping would beat Wandy in a rematch, I have little doubt of that. Looked like he had stagefright or something. Personally I think Bisping is borderline top 5. I think he'd beat guys like Munoz.
I gotta disagree with you on this one Trp. Silva's achilles heel is his wrestling. Sonnen could take him down at will because Silva doesn't have great td defense. As much as I hate Bisping, his td defense is top notch. I don't know how anyone can say Bisping got robbed. I had him winning one round, and I would debate that it was a dominant round at that. Sonnen pushed the pace and like Trp said in the 3 round got mounted, so saying Sonnen doesn't do anything but lay and pray is incorrect. Bisping is hard to control and keep down, lets be real about it.
