In 1810, a freed slave named Tom Molineaux fought in one of the most important fights in the history of boxing. This is his story. http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id...ing-career-freed-american-slave-tom-molineaux I'm kinda into this bare knuckle stuff right now so I enjoyed this.
There's a pub round the corner from Green Park station called Tom Cribb. Pretty cool has sketches from the bare knuckle days going on to signed photos from Henry Cooper, Nigel Benn, Lennox Lewis etc. Not sure what significance it has to the bare-knuckle era, but it's a cool place, even though it's small. Fucking expensive pint though.
Why? I thought it was reasonably well written, although it is clear that the subject matter is, by now, equal parts fact and fiction. I would be very curious to see what an early 19th Century fight looked like.
Because I posted it. Same here. If I had a time machine a milling cove would be one of my first stops.
