Go forth bummers and bum free! Bum free!

  2. Gimme ONE case of shagging brothers where both were deemed insane! Just one. "So little precedent"....as a defense just doesn't cut it. If they want to do it and it harms no one else then you should accept it according to your logic.

How is the premise against the weight of evidence? Are there not two genders for a reason?

A Kosher meats section is pretty much defined by the absence of pork. Hetrosexual marriage isn't defined by the absence of gays being allowed to marry.

  4. this.

  5.

    Ok I give up.

  6. Dude...Marriage is defined by one man and one women getting together....and by virtue of this is obviously defined by the absence of gays.

  7. sure. Let them bum free. Just call it something else. Call it "analfuckeriage" or something for all I care just not "marriage"

Your premise is that gayness is unnatural, not that straightness is the norm.

You got me on the shagging brothers, I don't actually have a file of case studies. Almost slipped that one by you.

  9. Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve! :finger:

You are cunning, mr hut.

In the Christian tradition! If somebody argued Christians/Jews/anybody else should be forced marry gays within their tradition, I totally agree with you - HELL NO. They get to decide the definition for themselves.

But since the general concept of marriage is a universal one, noone gets to impose their definition on everyone else.

This is the correct take. Said about ten times already in this thread, but perhaps it sinks in now

In fairness, there's actually good evidence that pyschopathy is heritable. Interestingly, also that a very disproportionate number of them end high up the business ladder, but that's another discussion.

    yes

    but gayness??? ridiculous

there's no indication there are any more gay people now than there ever were

we are just more AWARE of them because they aren't getting arrested at hidden-away little clubs for indecency or for three of them walking on the same sidewalk without a parade permit, they can actually exist out in the open.

It seems bum love has a big heritable component yeah. The spread of the genes is subject to downward pressures though, no? :hump:

There is a theory that homosexuality is basically nature's way to prevent overpopulation. When the population is growing too quickly, the proportion of homosexuals in the population will be higher after a few generation for a while. This applies not only for humans, but for most animal species too. So you can not say homosexuality is unnatural, however repulsive it may be.

  21. good post.

This does sound very plausible, though it is against the traditional evolution theory, according to which animals are only interested in surviving as individuals. Thus it has been thought that every animal tries to produce successors to make his/her genes move forwards to the next generation, and this is also why homosexuality has been seen as a disorder. However considering how common it is among all animals, the theory you mentioned could well be correct

The theory i supposed has some plausibility, but there's really no evidence for it historically. I'm also not sure where it's accepted homosexuality is "common" among animals. (even in blue states)

It sounds too neat to me personally, but it's interesting that gayness is far more common in younger siblings. In which case the mechanism might be to help ensure the animal's genes are passed on through the older siblings in a low food environment.

My dog seems to be a bummer. Boy dogs and girl humans. *'awkward'*

  26. I keep hearing from you guys how frequently this happens among animals.

So has it been documented, for example, that Lions (male) frequently mount other Lions?

Not that wikipedia is the most reliable source, but to me this looks like a genuine article

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexual_behavior_in_animals

  28. I'll check out the article. Now I have never doubted that it exists...I'm merely speaking about the frequency.

If an animal is horny it would mount anything. Dogs mount women, donkeys mount men. So homosexuality among animals is just another deviation from the norm.

Of course given those examples....we could argue that beastiality (inter species sex) happensin the animal kingdom too and so perhaps that's normal.

  29. Secondly, humans shouldn't aspire to the standards set forth by animals. I would like to think that we have higher aspirations than the beasts.

When Lions take over a pride they tend to kill the cubs of the former Leader. My new wife has a son from her first marriage...I don't think I should follow the Lion's standard.

OK, so we've goe from 'It's wrong because it's unnatural' to 'it doesn't mater if it's unnatural or not because we should hold ourselves to a higher standard anyway'.

I can't wait til Christianity dies out
