I have to say I'm shocked all of you liked that film

It was preposterous. Visually impressive, but preposterous nonetheless

  2. In this case I can understand why you say this. Loved it though.

I really liked Inception. Not high on the TV re-watchability scale but I was very impressed with it in the movie theater.

I liked Inception too. Sure the storyline was a bit infantile and the movie didn't have any big message in it, but it was an entertaining and visually impressive action movie and as such one of the best I have seen

I, too, thought it was incredible LOOKING, but I need more from a film than just that before I think of it as "good"

It had an interesting enough plot line. Like putting together a jigsaw puzzle.

Like most movies with a puzzle or a twist to solve, when you've seen it once, it's not quite as fun in later viewings.

Lets not pretend this is just some Michael Bay pretty pictures, CGI piece of shit.

well, no, it was certainly better than that, because the actors were actually believable

But the story was ridiculous to me and the action sequences had a tendency to lag on

again, though, there is a world of difference between "As horrible as a Michael Bay film" and "a terrific movie"

Just because you are better looking than Tom Petty doesn't mean you are handsome

I agree it requires suspension of disbelief, if that's what you mean.. but that doesn't necessarily ruin a movie imo.

Nor should it. Anyone who criticizes a film for being too unbelievable or unrealistic isn't being fair. That is the point of the movie, to give you a sense of fantasy, and you are supposed to judge the movie on the merits of it's story, acting, pace, etc, and not on the possibility of it being realistic. For example the fact that you may not believe going into a black hole will bring you to another universe should be moot. The only question is was it a good movie otherwise?

Now, all that said, I thought Inception was pretty good. Yet I am somehow impressed with the movie even though I didn't totally enjoy watching it, if that makes any sense.

This performance just popped in my head a couple days ago but I always thought it was a great performance that went overlooked.

Giancarlo Esposito's performance as the drug dealing Latino in Fresh.

    Agree.

I don't see him around much anymore, but Esposito was good in just about everything he was ever in.

Sean Nelson, who played Fresh, was great in that. Only other movie I've seen him in was The Wood.

The point was not that it was "impossible", the point is that it contradicts itself in places... there's an awful lot of deus ex machina in that film, largely because they could not conceive a way of holding the idea together. There were large holes.

I'm all for a fantasy, but the fantasy's world has its own logic and in order for it to work, it needs to be consistent. Inception's created world lacked consistent logic within itself.

My less than enthusiastic reception to the film had NOTHING to do with it being impossible. After all, I enjoyed "2001" and last I checked no one has discovered giant monoliths in outer space and then blasted their way through the cosmos.

Rooster is a benevolent fellow. I know damn well he gifted that to me. He's got a smashed shift key or something.
