With Oscars approaching lets list and describe some Oscar worthy dives

Herbie Hide in the Vitaly Klitschko fight. Very impressive perfomance from Mr.Hide . Wins round one to make it look real and then slows down in round two to let the plodding Vitaly catch up. Waits to get hit with a punch and Vitaly's trademark accuracy only results in a punch on a shoulder. Hide the professional that he is takes what he can get and even adds a great dog peeing impersonation with his leg up in the air and seizure look on his face. Bravo mr.Hide BRAVO.

Bruce Seldon in the Mike Tyson fight. Very impressive dive from a missed punch followed by the bravery and gutso of Bruce to let Mike kinda hit him once for real and then going down to make it legit and THEN getting up waiting 5 seconds and doing the Judah dance. Very very impressive dive and on top of it all this dive subsequently resulted in Tupac dying because fight ended early. So execution is a A+ and the Tupac death resulting from it gives it another 5,000 points in Historic significance.

Orlin Norris in the Vitaly Klitschko fight. Another very impressive dive here. Orlin is the only man in boxing that dived from a missed combination of FOUR punches. This gave Vitaly every chance in the book to land something to make it look a bit legitimate ala Bruce Seldon but as punches one through four went whislitng by his head he said screw it and dropped down by himself. Thanks for nothing Vitaly and then Orlin even added a touch of look at me I'm a warrior I'm trying to get up. Oh got up at 10.5 . Just missed the count! :(

A dive usually happens when the "losing" party could have beaten the winner if they tried.

Herbie Hide fights Mircea Telecan (fight starts at 4.15). I think this is the only fight in history where the other guy goes down three times in little more than minute even though NO PUNCH IS LANDED. Hide's first shot lands to shoulder, the three-four other he threw missed, and once his faint wobbles Telecan badly. Watch and admire

These aren't dives. A dive happens where the better fighter loses. I remember some journalist trying to get attention for exposing "Corruption" in boxing where they named some bums they said had taken money to lose to, wait for it, George Foreman and Kirk Johnson, both of whom would have destroyed the guys in question {one of them was called "Smiley" IIRC} even if the guy had been paid DOUBLE to "beat"Foreman/Johnson. Kirk and George could have beaten these guys in their sleep. Its not like anyone had to pay extra to "make" it happen.

The guy in the Telecan fight quit. There was no dive. Except when he dived onto the floor.

Nice find but what was the guy's record ? It looked like it was his first professional fight and he was just scared and kept dropping out of fear of getting hit. Quite emberassing.

That is not the definition at all. It doesn't have to be the better guy.

Williams was poisoned. All American fighters who turn in losing performances in Europe have been Litvinenkoed in some way shape or form.

In fact several otherwise useful opponents performed questionably against Nielsen. Lionel Butler took a full count from a single straight to the body, Tim Witherspoon suffered a weird injury etc. Shannon Briggs once accused Nielsen's camp of bribery, and I do believe there was something iffy going on

Reed diving onto Cotto's nuts to make Floyd look good was worthy of an Oscar. Not an Old Oscar, like the one Floyd fought, but a New Oscar. Like Cotto himself. :laugh11:

Maybe, maybe. He's also an inveterate Floyd apologist. Bigging Cotto up to make Floyd look good is weak. Cotto is damaged goods. Everybody knows this. Getting on Cotto's nutz with a view to bigging him up for the Floyd fight is horseshit, and you know it. I don't give a fuck how many big names he's fought, he's past his best, and thats why Floyd is fighting him.

I like Cotto, a lot. I hoped he'd get this fight, for the money, he's earned it, he's deserved it. Floyd won't even fight him in the Garden. He's an insufferable cunt.

Come on!!! Give us some new material!!! You're not out to get me, you learned your lesson!!!!

Why won't Floyd fight him in the Garden? Does Denzel Washington find it hard to travel out to NYC?? He was there making that movie with Spike, they must have left an unpaid bar tab or something.

Floyd vs Cotto....its an OK fight. In the Garden, its an OK fight and a decent event. I can dig it.

But Floyd vs Cotto in Vegas, with Cotto being passed off as this dangerous dude with a great resume???? Afro-American, PUH-LEEZE!!!!

Abdullaev? Are people actually mentioning him? Dude looks like Denis Lebedev. Just slower and even uglier.

Because the condition that Floyd was excused from prison until June was the cash he'd be bringing into Nevada. But you already knew that.
