IN fact, the kick seemed legal as the guy on the floor seems to be raising his hands to protect the kick when it catches him
The youube description is inacurate. "Brutal headkick to a downed opponent" The opponent wasn't downed, he was coming in low and got smashed. I'd like to see that happen more often.
It's obscured, but I think the guy's hand was skimming the ground when he was kicked and the kick lifted up the hand. The frame I can get it to stop on shows the kick well on its way and the hand is still down.
Uhm.. if your feet are planted on the ground doesn't that mean you can get kicked ?!? They need to drop that whole idiotic rule anyways.
It's a fairly interesting question of semantics. When the kick started the opponent had a hand on the ground. But when it landed, he did not. The rule needs to be changed to eliminate the hand. It should be anything touching the mat other than hands or feet to be considered grounded.
The whole rule sucks in general. they should allow kicks to the head no matter what is on the ground. knees too
If the bottom of BOTH feet are on the ground kicks to the face should be legal. You should have to have a knee down or be on your ass to be considered "down"
It is possible to have the bottom of both feet and your ass on the mat at the same time. Ask Condit who did the butt scootin boogie the other night against Diaz.
Bad wording, sorry. :: What I should have said is that a guy should have to be on his ass or at least one knee touching to be considered down.
I have always thought the Pride rules were so much better when regarding a downed oppnent. This shit irritates me to no end. I would have kicked him too. I think I would feint one first to get his hand up, then kick his head into the stands.
Can you find something that shows this? Like I said, I can find a frame that shows the hand touching when the kick is on the way and I can find a frame that shows the hand is off after the kick has landed, but not one at the time of impact. Maybe youtube has other views of this fight?
