What fighters interest you at the moment?

Discussion in 'General Boxing Discussion' started by Destruction and Mayhem, Feb 17, 2012.

  1. Who are you following? Whose fights do you look forward to?

Back in the 80s I followed Hagler, Hearns, Leonard, Duran, Tyson, Holmes, Spinks...man boxing was great.

in the 90s: Trinidad, Whitaker, De La Hoya, Chavez, Tyson, Holyfield, bowe, Lewis, Foreman, Jones, Hopkins, Eubank, Benn, Collins, McClellan

in the 00s: Mosley, De La Hoya, Vargas, Morales, Barrera, Gatti, Corrales, hamed, lewis, Mayweather, jones, Trinidad, Hopkins

in the 10s: Just motherfucking Mayweather and Pacquiao (Honorable mention to Cotto)!

Now that they're not fighting each other...Mayweaher Cotto is the only fight I'm even remotely interested in seeing.

It's a sad sad day...no wonder I spend most of my time here in TAAA

    What about y'all?

  2. BOSS

    BOSS TBD

Ya it's sad but Cotto/Mayweather is the only fight that slightly caught my interest since Mosley/Mayweather and that was a while ago. Boxing is on life support. Somebody needs to pull the plug.

Really looking forward to Gamboa/Rios. Real good matchup here.

This is where I'm at. To the point where I look forward to fights more so than certain fighters. And this fight is at the top of a very short list.

Whomever hbo and showtime tell me to.

  9. Tyson Fury.

Purely and simply for the fact that he's funny-as-fuck.

Other than that, boxing sucks the big-one and probably won't ever recover.
As soon as Money and Pac finally quit, there's 100% NO-ONE worth remotely looking forward to watching.

It's depressing how loaded boxing was in the 90s vs today

  12. +1

And even Mayweather / Pacquiao's fights are so one-sided....the sport's on the big-slide, whether it gets back up again is anyone's guess...

I stopped giving a shit about Khan after the Peterson fight. How the hell do you turn pro with no ability to do anything on the inside at all? That shit was embarrassing to watch

Its not necessarily his fault. His people tell him he is great, they promote him thus, he gets the wins, only a matter of time before he thinks he is as good as they tell him he is.

That means nothing, it's the same for many boxers.

Khan is just a speedy, robotic amateur, that's all he'll ever be.

    Donaire
    Pacman
    Gamboa
    Floyd (to see him lose)
    Rios

Not really too many fighters that are worth watching. If Ward fights like he did against Froch than Ward, if he reverts to his grabbing sloppy style then not Ward .

Boxing really fucking sucks right now.

  26. Come on, take your head out the sand - I know you're a boxing fanatic and all but look at things objectively.
None of these guys would make 3rd fight on an undercard of the fighters listed on Sly's opening post.
Most of them are 'prospects' at best.

That said, I'm sure it doesn't make them any less boxers than your Whitakers, Hopkins, Toneys, Lewis'...its just that they'll be like some of cdogg's obscure-but-brilliant jazzmen: playing lights out in front of 200 people in a smoky club.

The fact is, a lot of the general public had heard of all of the boxers Sly listed even if they hadn't actually seen them (and actually, the guys listed in the '00 category were well-known in at the start of their careers in the mid-'90s!)

Rios- I want to see how he does at 140.

Andy Lee- I want to see if he wants to make a go of his career or not.

Klitschkos- see if Vitali retires, what Wlad has in plan.

Arthur Abraham- want to see if he can do anything at 160 again. Its wide open.

Hopkins- I scan the obituary notices daily, in his honour.

Gamboa/Rignondeaux- good Cubans, always follow a good Cuban.

Mike Perez- has promise at heavyweight, seems fond of the whores and food though.

Arreola- seems to be turning it around. Lets see.

I am interested in whoever can emerge as THE man at 175, right now that division is in total flux {flux being a polite word for disarray}. Cloud got pissed upon last night. Dawson is rematching Obituary boy, nobody really dominant at 175 coming out of the UK...so...who knows.

168- Andre Ward, will be interesting to see if he builds on his recent success or if he moves up. Froch vs Bute is considerable interest for all concerned. I think Bute will beat him and then set up the Ward vs Bute pissing contest, a veritable online smörgåsbord of trash-talk and pastel-shirted posturing, for a fight that never comes off.

Fuck Floyd and Fuck Manny Pac.

I am interested in Cotto. Only reason I will be watching that fight is for Cotto. Cotto vs Driftwood I watch, Floyd vs Driftwood I won't.
