yeah mate, the current squad would do alright I reckon, mid table-ish. I think there's a chance we'll surprise a few in Europe next year, with a fit squad and the extra years experience. And another summer of Lennon plucking superstars from 3rd world villages. In Lennon we trust.
There were a couple of numpties who made death threats to Lennon online the other day. And there's also the potential of Celtic winning the league at Ibrox so the coppers want that rescheduled. Probably advisable.
A pound coin was thrown towards the technical area at Ibrox on saturday as the players left the field, narrowly missing the ref. Club officials are trying to ascertain whether it was thrown maliciously or intended as a takeover bid :atu:
Aye, we may jest, but I do sincerely fear this is going to turn very very bitter very very quickly. Did you see Ally trying to put a brave face on it before the Killie game, all bouncy and happy? Christ. This is going to be ugly.
It seems that Ibrox will be getting its named changed to the Inland Revenue Arena, or IRA, but its only Provisional
Celtic 24 hours from Liquidation: Yup, they hired a hearse! :: The office party was so wild most of them lost the ability to form cogent sentences and never recovered. Rangers 24 hours from Liquidation: :laugh11::laugh11::laugh11::atu: 'Whyte has conned us all'':Alabama: It's the party you keep waking up to.
I'm a very happy hut. The stars are all aligned aright. Children tumble through the streets like moving jewels. The ocean laps away without peradventure.
Haha, a bunch of LFC fans chipped in to get an EFC themed coffin and funeral procession in place for our imminent relegation at that Wimbledon game. Hope they never spent too much......
How long have Everton been in the top division? Thinking back I cant remember hearing of them ever not being. Everton and Arsenal are the only two that applies to off the top of my head....maybe spurs too
This myth about the PL being 'the best league in the world' is now smashed. Surely. The PL hegemony lasted precisely four years. MTF :atu:
Do Everton hold the record for most consecutive seasons in the top division? They have not been relegated for (off the top of my head) at least fifty years. MTF :dunno:
Everton have been top division since 1954. Not sure if that's a record. I think someone else might have been up longer. Everton has the record for most seasons played in the top flight with 108. The year I became a fan (end of the '03-'04 season) we came in 16th or 17th place. The next season, 4th place.
Aberdeen have never been relegated from the Scottish top flight either, despite finishing bottom of the division in the early 2000's. The team (think it might have been Falkirk) who were due to replace them didn't have a ground which could meet SPL standards so Aberdeen didn't go down.
I know you're not fond of Aberdeen but I like the fact they have a bit of history about them, however fleeting their success may have been
Says on their wikipedia page that they were relegated in the mid-2000's, maybe that was their first relegation?
They hate the huns at least as much as we do so they're ok by me as a club. I just hate the town & accent. 'The granite city'. Urgh.
Do you view them in the same light as you do Forest? An ordinary nondescript club achieving great things due to having a great manager?
I think I'd rate them about equal 4th biggest club in Scotland alongside Hibs, behind Hearts as third. They'd picked up one or two trophies before Ferguson and had had good league finishes besides that, but essentially, yeah, one manager club. Aberdeen's one claim to fame besides the Fergie years - they were Celtic's opponents when we set the all time club football attendance record at Hampden in the 1948 Scottish cup final. :bears:
Surely the unique achievement of winning a European trophy puts them above Hearts, no? What about Dundee United, they also had a great team back in the day. Reached a UEFA cup final, were robbed of a place in the European Cup final, only British side with a 100% winning record against Barcelona in European competition etc...
That stuff was amazing but it doesn't sustain a club once it's over. If you're asked for a prediction in any given year - 'who will finish third 15 seasons from now?', you'll plump for Hearts. Fanbase=base to build from=longevity='club' in the enduring sense. IMO. Those sides definitely go down among the very best Scottish teams though, wish they were around today
I was just kidding. I follow the Carling Cup and epecially the FA Cup like a madman. It's all still pretty new to me and I'm fascinated by these little clubs playing in the FA Cup. I have written down the highest attendance, lowest attendance, biggest blowout, and any disqualifications for every round this season. In the Preliminary round there were three ties won by a nine goal margin. Maldon & Tiptree beat Ipswich Wanderers 9-0. I just picked their name for the reference. In US sports, most kids grow up playing in sports tournaments in about every sport but as far as viewing, we have playoffs in our major sports but only one REAL big tournament and that is in college basketball (March Madness) which is a very exciting and intriguing event even if you aren't a huge basketball fan. I am just a huge fan of the tournament style which translates in English football to the two domestic cups and then the Europa Leage and CL after that.
