Do you think it's proper to take into account hand-speed when judging a fight?

Should three punches landed at blazing speed count for more than three that land with only average hand speed?

The power and the accuracy of the punches should be the most important aspect of any exchange. :dunno:

Not how fast they were delivered.

There's nothing I hate more then an inaccurate shoeshine, and Jim Lampley going off into a convulsion of libidinous man love.

Thing is, Lampley's not alone. My guess is there's fans everywhere who get a hard on everytime a fighter lands with speed. So much so, that fighter can take off entire minutes of a round and still win it. Afterall, he's the faster fighter.

    True.

And Double L is also correct. Boxing has, seemingly overnight, metamorphosed from a sport where flash, pizazz, and glitter rank equally, if not outright superior to, technique, guile and subtlety.

Again, the irony is palpable- given that the UFC/MMA, supposedly on the rise, is inhabited by participants who wouldn't know handspeed if it jumped up and smacked them in the face.

Ironically, the UFC has more time for the groping, meandering, shuffling, reaching machinations of its combatants, with boxing now indulging itself in the icing-sugar that is "handspeed and footspeed"

Of course not, but usually the guy who lands faster also lands more often or more cleanly, which are correct reasons to score the round for the fighter.

Again, if you would mention which fight you mean instead of hinting, we could get much more out of this

Last Time REED Checked, Handspeed WAS NOT a Part of Boxing's Scoring Criteria..."Clean, Effective Punching, Ring Generalship, Defense, etc."...

    What's your ANGLE, Doub???...

Like Spike Lee, Reed's doing the right thing. :crafty:

Shots landed and aggression is the primary element of scoring.

Why would I do that? So the conversation can degenerate into a pointless debate about details instead of a broader discussion of concrpts and principles?

Because, just like the last time, rules obviously say that handspeed is not a scoring criteria, and thus there is nothing to discuss here unless you can come up with an example where round or fight would have been scored wrong because of this.

Same way you could make a thread of Is it fair to judge fights on the basis of tallness. What could we possibly discuss about there? And why would you even ask this if you don't think this kind of problem exists?:dunno:

I wonder if we should score rounds on the basis of who has the longer arms. :scratcher:

Wide shoulders scare your opponent (as well as leopard trunks bother your vision) so they make him fight frightened and thus you win rounds based on ring generalship

Well...I'm wondering if you don't award the fighter FACING a fighter with leopard trunks with an automatic 10-8 round .

You can't judge it fairly if one guy has wide shoulders or leopard trunks...

Maybe if the wide shoulder guy also has leopard trunks he will automatically lose two rounds 10-9

Now if you have one fighter with big shoulders and the other fighter is wearing leopard trunks...then I'd say it's a wash

    A better question would be:

Is it fair to judge fights on the basis of blackness?

No doubt. If a round is so close you feel compelled to score it 10 - 10, maybe we should all score it 10 - 9 to the guy with the lighter skin? :kidcool:
