If Natalie Portman had a lesbian scene with Mila Kunis in that one to, I also pick "Thor".

The only one I've seen is Moneyball.

It was a good enjoyable movie. Not something that struck me as a terrific movie worthy of a Best Picture award.

Then again, worse movies have won.

    Tree of life robbed.

I knew the artist was going to win.

The movie was a love letter to hollywood by Hollywood.
    Exactly what the academy loves.

Worst Oscar race ever. Not watching this ceremony telecast for the second year in a row. None of the nine best picture films really stands out. There is not a single commercial audience beloved film this year (no Captain America, no THOR, no Rise of The Planet of The Apes, no nothing worth caring for). Of the 9 Best Picture nominees I watched only one: The Help which I thought it was an okay Lifetime channel-like film, but not worthy of Best Picture of the Year. But guess what? It is The Help this year's AVATAR!! LOL The Academy looked at its budget ($25 million) and its total box office gross ($167 million) and presto! There is the Academy's choice for a blockbuster, fan favorite, commercial success nominee! But guess what? the rest of the films have been box office turkeys. HUGO has grossed so far $69.4 million, but with its hush hush budget of $170 million it might sink its studio. The hugely acclaimed (by critics, that's it) The Artist hailed as a box office winner with $31.8 million gross for a $15 million budget. In other words,it barely broke even. Moneyball has grossed $75.6 million, but its budget was over $50 million...not recouping much either. Steven Spielberg's WAR HORSE has grossed $79 million, a low number for a Spielber movie. Much lower if we take in consideration its $66 million budget. Tree of Life was a real bomb: of its $32-$50 million budget it grossed only $13.3 million. Midnight in Paris might be Woody Allen's most successfulfilm in decades: it reportedly grossed $78.5 million and supposedly had a $17 million budget. Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close budget remains undiclosed, but everybody knows that Tom Hank's & Sandra Bullock's salary was HIGHER than its total gross of $31.2 million.

Surprised "War Horse" bombed at the box office. I heard people weeping at the end of the movie in the theater I was in. That's usually a sign of box office gold.

Nowhere near Spielberg's best, but it had a bunch of really good scenes, despite some of the obvious flaws and forced sentiment.

A bit like "Amistad" in that regard.

Not a perfect movie but a good watch.

I thought Meryl Streep deserved to win - she did a very very good job as Thatcher.

For me...that was teh most competitive category of the night.

Any of those women deserved to win. I thought Glenn Close and The one who played Marilyn Monroe were as critically acclaimed performances as that of Thatcher.

"Battle LA" could win for both Best Trailer AND Worst Movie of the Year.

Good point. Very competitive category, any of them could have won and they would have deserved it. I'll amend my statement to say that I was glad Streep won it.

    I liked Midnight In Paris.

Granted, Owen Wilson is whiney and whimpy but I figured Woody Allen cast him because Woody himself was too old for the role.

Overall, I thought it wasn't a bad film. Kind of clever in a way.

I loved it. Not an over the top film, but a feel good story. Adrien Brody had a small role as Salvador Dali and I thought it was hilarious.

i thought owen wilson did a good job of playing woody allen himself. the movie itself was well done. it's actually the only movie i watched that was nominated for oscars. i guess i'd check out the artist to see what all the fuss is about.

woody's had a bunch of people play himself: will ferrell, kenneth branagh, john cusack all done it. i liked midnight in paris, but it was just another allen film; don't see how it was more oscar-worthy than a lot of his stuff over the past ten years.

nope. i've actually never seen any of t malick's films. i just know that he's a recluse who never shows up to any of premiers, award shows/festivals. from what i read, his movies are either loved or hated. for some reason, i always confused him w/ the guy who did 12 monkeys and Brazil.
