Neil and I were talking about this last week

Let's face it - if Mayweather v Cotto and Alvarez each do 1.8 million domestic buys - Floyd will probably net around $38 mill per fight which is a total of $76 million and no risk of losing

If Floyd-Pac does 3 million domestic PPV buys (shattering the previous record of DLH-May for 2.4 million) and they split it 50/50 - Floyd probably nets somewhere around $56 million

so what would you rather do if you are Floyd? 2 fights, no loss, much easier fights and $76 million, or one fight with a high potential for losing and $56 million?

    But is losing so bad?

I wonder if Roy, Calz, and Ottke would do things differently if they could? Certainly, it seems like Roy learned that losing wasn't the worst thing in the world, but his standing is certainly compromised by not fighting some challengers while in his prime.

Also, if Floyd did lose to Pacquiao, he probably could get a second $56 million for a rematch. I like undefeated records, but at some point a fighter needs to (re should) worry about legacy. I think Floyd is well past that point.

I agree with you. But I do think losing IS that bad for Floyd. His undefeated record is all he clings onto now. He will take his $76 million and the zero on his record.

Conversely Pacquiao might not make $38 million for his next two fights combined.
