I hear from many mayweather jr. detractors that this is some pertinent issue regarding him only fighting in vegas and using anesthetics for his hands. what i would like to know is if Lidocaine is illegal to use in other countries during boxing matches? if it is such a huge advantage for him why wont his opponents use it also?
His opponents don't use it because they don't have little 10 year old boy hands :: It's basically akin to testosterone replacement. Potentially "legit" and approved, but still 100% ped.
Maybe they don't have pain in their hands. Vinny Paz, the boxer, not the fat Italian Muslim piece of turd, said that he shot up with Novocaine for one of the Rosenblatt fights. Vinny Paz. ::
Ha ha. Floyd needs caine to fight. Cotto should bring this up. Why isn't this discussed more broadly?
Tito could still punch without the wraps. Floyd can't do a thing without the painkillers. So the painkillers are "worse" in many regards. Its a fallacy to say "Oh, Floyd needs them to level the playing field"......Matthew Saad Muhammad's corner jammed an illegal cement into an eye cut when he fought John Conteh in their first fight. A failing body, an injury...these are all parts of the game. If Floyd is allowed to take painkillers because he has bad hands, then the other fighter should be allowed to take a break because he has shitty stamina.
It's illegal, even in Vegas. It's against NSAC rules, but isn't really tested for as it's not on the WADA banned substance list and that is who does their testing. I think the only time he's actually been tested for it was when Hatton asked for him to be tested for it.
Can you find something that says this? Cause im pretty sure its legal in Vegas which is why people like to make issue of the fact Floyd doesnt fight outside of vegas
Most fighters will get hand injuries and require treatments of some kind in their careers. I don't have much problem with it unless it's a substance that would be taken right before a fight that would make their hands almost impervious to pain. Then it would be an advantage even for fighters that don't have any hand related problems.
I doubt there's a test that could determine exactly when it was taken. At least not with certainty within a week time frame.
Not only that, but the NSAC uses WADA testing and it's not even on the banned substance list. So it's not actually tested for. It is however against NSAC rules.
but if it was legal to do so and it was that much of an advantage then why wouldnt ALL fighters do it in las vegas ? also it seems if you had a hand injury or brittle mitts and you take something that makes them impervious to pain, then during the fight you wouldnt realize if you had suffered/aggravated an injury and could do serious permanent damage.
I think that's the very reason fighters don't. I doubt it has quite that strong an effect anyway. Even if it did, the only way i can envision a fighter doing it is if they did already have an injury and it was the biggest fight of their career. Similar to football players taking cortizone shots. Good in the short term and bad in the long run. I don't think there are too many athletes doing that in pre-season games.
Im still waiting for someone to provide evidence whether these type of injections are legal/illegal in other countries
Which is one possible reason pbf fights once a year, doesn't film his sparring and retired, although he probably did that because his promoter had nobody for him to fight. As to the risks, the reward far outweighs it. You think he'd forfeit millions because he might hurt his hands? Second thought, he probably fights once a year for the same reason the chia pet is only sold seasonally.
Boxers have used painkillers in their hands since the beginnings of the sport. That's why nobody complains about Floyd. Athletes of all types shoot up with cortisone regularly to combat swelling in joints.
Vernon Forrest used to get a pain killing shot (pun not intended) in both shoulders when they were injured. He had them for both Mosley fights and continued to get them for several months. By following this stupid patern and not allowing the shoulders to heal it got to the point where the injections stopped working and he had to take a hiatus.
I think it's only natural for people to question pbf's use of pain killers given his accusations of others. How is it a level playing field if he's allowed to numb his hands?
