At this point in time, he probably has as good a claim as anybody.

Ugotabe, you have been viewing this thread for the last hour. I can see even a man as prescient as yourself is wrestling with this Gordian Knot.

    Right. Thank you.

Now supppose either, but not both, of Manny and May died in their sleep tonight.....would that make the remaining fighter The Champ?

Suppose Manny died. Too much steroids. May never fought Manny, never fought Margarito and as of right now is YET to fight Cotto.

    Would May be "The Champ"?

Suppose May died, from an obscure gay-disease....would Manny be The Man?? He's already beaten Cotto, Margarito, Clottey, Shane.

The only real argument would be for Mayweather, who beat Mosley, who beat Margarito, who beat Cotto after Mayweather retired and vacated the title.

I'm happy with vacant until they fight eachother.

So how does this work? Its not who you fought, its who fought the guy you fought???

    :dunno:

The point I am making is that its a shambles right down the line. Its limbo. Like dead unbaptized babies, floating around between heaven and hell. We have not had a satisfactory, de-facto, de-jure Undisputed champ since Tito lost to Oscar.

Its very simple- either Floyd and Manny fight, or one of them fucks off, preferably via death.

Nah, there was solid lineage during the Mosley/Forrest/Mayorga/Spinks/Judah/Baldomir/Mayweather run

    Something of a contradiction.

The situation is better today than then.

What was the other lineage at that time? Was it Margarito's line that was claimed by Mosley prior to Mayweather?

I don't think Margarito held the WBO when Mosley fought Forrest for what most considered the welterweight championship. I think Margarito fought for the vacant belt shortly after that.

It really isn't. Although it works best at heavyweight, where fighters can't move up in weight.

Agreed. It really isn't a load of shit. It's very simple, even tho it is theoretical. The idea being there is only ONE belt, one designated champion per weight.

When it becomes vacant that's a problem because you need a consensus #1 and #2 to fight to fill the vacancy.

Consensus #1 and #2 when Mosley beat DLH? Tough tho because Mosley had just moved up to 147 didn't he?

    Forrest beats Mosley
    Mayorga beats Forrest
    Spinks beats Mayorga
    Judah beats Spinks
    Baldomir beats Judah
    Floyd beats Baldomir

Then Floyd fucks everything up by retiring and essentially vacating.

Were Cotto and Marg #1 and #2 in 2008 when they fought in fight #1? I think they were. I am gonna have to say Floyd Mayweather has the claim as of now,

And also i am editing my post in the other thread about top two fighters fighting each other

    yup

as soon as the multiple ABCs began to dominate the sport, lineage should have gone right out the fucking window
