Those wins add up. They were undefeated prospects. Torres was dangerous. He KOed everyone he fought. Had Cotto hurt and Cotto overcame. Pinto beat Cotto before. He was Dangerous opponent at the time. People seem to forget history
Corley had him staggering around like a drunken newborn calf, he was just a terrible finisher. Hatton would finish him. And yeah, Chop Chop hurt Floyd too, but it was nowhere near as bad as Cotto. If Hatton hurt Cotto that bad, he'd put him away, no question about it. Lesser fighters? Which lesser fighters, aside from Eammon Magee? Floyd & Pac?
Hatton isnt finishing Cotto. Cotto would bodyshot the shit out of him at 140. Hatton's wild punches would be Cotto's wet dream.
Hatton might beat the extremely weight drained Cotto at 140. The 140 Cotto that was still comfy at the weight, like the one that destroyed Pinto and Abdullaev, would bust Hatton up and stop him late. At the end of the day, Cotto's just the much better fighter. And unlike ancient Tszyu, a much FRESHER fighter.
Hatton was enough of a puncher to KO a severely drained Cotto. Duran.. let's not even talk about what Duran would do to Cotto.
I think there is a chance that they'd start making out in that fight. In fact, that would be my prediction and I would never watch. Cotto who is basically out and the repressed violent homosexuality of Duran and is ability to hold after every punch thrown, those two might have relations in the ring. Disgusting.
Never heard of it. I am just sick of the glorification of homosexuality on this board and its patron saint Roberto "the D block rapist" Duran. The guy was horrible to watch fight due to his repressed and unrelenting proclivity toward humping and grabbing other men. If the rules of boxing were enforced, dURAN WOULD be a footnote. HIS STYLE WAS AS ILLEGAL AS IT WAS GAY.
Nah, it only enabled him to do more damage, shove guys into the ropes and let rip with vicious bodyshots and combos. His style was no more illegal than Flid, and far more legal than the likes of Ward and little Timmy. Duran was just a masterful infighter. But anyway, watch Bruno, there's a scene in there you might like, featuring "Straight Dave".
YES, the only fight I have ever rewatched is his fight versus Joppy. Just because you sheep read ring magazine and people have told you DURAN was great to watch doesn't mean it is true. You guys can make whatever meaningless distinctions you wish. The fact is he held as much as Ruiz, Oquendo and Hatton. The guy was unwatchable. I have seen almost all of his fights. I used to be a bigger fan of boxing than I am now. Even at my zenith of boxing love, Duran was unwatchable and overrated.I will never watch a Duran fight again because I can't watch boxing for boxing's sake anymore. Hagler/Duran is possibly the worst fight in history between two hall of famers. It made Oscar/Tito look like Gatti/Ward.
I actually really liked Hagler/Duran. I thought it was a great and tactical fight. Duran's holding was almost always in the name of perpetuating his offense, as opposed to defense or getting a rest. That makes it dirtier in a way, but somehow more forgivable. Having said that, I can understand the criticism of Duran. He could be tedious to watch. But actually, moreso than being boring, I think his approach could be criticized for how dirty it was - the holding and hitting especially.
What I am saying is whatever distinction you make and others make it is meaningless. To me holding is what ruins fight. Duran might have been mugging and grappling to punch people, but it was hideous to watch. I don't fucking care why anyone holds. Duran was fucking boring and fought illegally. Had the rules been enforced he would be an obscure footnote in boxing history.
I agree that it's irrelevant why someone holds when it comes to the legality of it. And also that it's tedious no matter why they're holding. But it is more pathetic when a fighter holds because he's tired, or doesn't know how to fight inside. And that reminds me of another thing I wanted to say about Duran, which is that because of his ferocity and hyper-activity on the inside, his opponents tended to try to hold him a lot. And so I think at least part of the blame is with them.
:: At least now we know who had money on Hatton losing. Hatton beat his motherfucking ass all night long.
Some hilarous, crazy shit in this thread... :: I got Hatton here, but not by a lot. Cotto has poor stamina and can be got at, especially late, and for that reason I think prime Hatton eventually gets him and stops him. At 147, Cotto wins everytime. MTF
I wanted to say this but I figured everyone would just accuse me of making excuses. A LOT of the holds Duran wound up in were not initiated by him, guys tried to clinch him on the inside because he was just so damn effective in there.
Yeah, except that his arms were bear-hugging the other guy. JUST ADMIT Duran was a holding faggot.Anyone that says the enjoy watching that faggot fight is lying. The only Duran fights I HAve had the patience to re-watch is versus Joppy and Hearns. GREAT FIGHTS.
