Well, as Jay-Z says, 37 is the new 27, and I am sure that the color-commentary guys at HBO subscribe to that infinite wisdom. I think Martinez speed and reflexes come from the same place as Serena Williams erstwhile blonde hair. A bottle. They both fought like pussies. Martinez is just kind of awkward and moves a lot. He takes FAR more risks than those 2 and throws more power shots.

 

Vargas is more Indian than Martinez. This means he is slow and prone to giving away copious amounts of gold for no apparent reason.

 

The Recency and Pound For Pound stats prove you right sir. Of course it helps that guys like David Haye or Vitali are far better fighters than Macklin or Dzindzuruk but hey, who's counting baby???

He's got the worst level of opposition for some time for somebody rated so highly. Macklin was bursted years ago by Jamie Moore and he was exposed as limited and routine by Felix Sturm- never mind the pundits. He may have "won" in the 10-9 sense of the word but he was badly exposed as being a methodical and routine fighter in the worst sense of the word. Dzindzuruk used to be good but much like DM he stagnated whilst fighting a load of stiffs and was not at it at 160 at all. Darren Barker???? Darren Barker??? Michael Buffer couldn't even get his name right.

 

Disagree. He is just the opposite extreme. The former hold and stink and Martinez fights 45 seconds a round running in fear. The opposite end of the same shit stained pole.

 

Pavlik was a better middleweight than Haye is a heavyweight.

But it isn't really about that anyway. wald pussy could be a MUCH better fighter than Martinez, all I'm saying is Martinez is less boring and takes more risks, no question.

He's not as boring as people make out imo, he makes for interesting fights and good KO's, he's just a bit awkward and frustrating sometimes.

 

To be honest he gets some kudos from me just for making a Darren Baker fight somewhat interesting

 

Oh Christ. Pavlik was a 6 pack away from the Betty Ford Center by the time he fought Martinez and had the confidence kicked out of him in the Hopkins fight. Haye had not lost in 7 years by the time he fought Wlad and had a string of useful , and, importantly, morale boosting wins under his belt, especially at Cruiser but also vs Valuev at Heavy. He was a genuine dangerman with a dangerous punch and a lot of confidence. Pavlik was a defused fighter by the time he fought Martinez.

I don't agree with the basic tenet that Martinez is boring. I do disagree with the notion that the guy is fighting killers and looks good doing it. He's fighting some serious stiffs right now. Three of his last 4 are really bargain-basement stuff.

Sure, I don't think he is boring per se. I just don't believe he is taking life-and-death risks with murderous opponents either. Right now his competition has a George-Foreman-Comeback feel to it.

At 160? Hell yeah it'd be a blow out.

At 154, its an interesting fight if Vargas is prime.

I'll admit though, at either weight Nando is in danger of getting stopped by walking into something he never sees.

Handspeed always was problematic for Nando.

 

I question it. He fucking runs for 2:00 to 2:15 seconds every round. Wlad's kayo ratio is 80-83% and Sergio is 50%. He fights less than one minute every round. If he takes more risks than wald pussy, it is barely more. Martinez has a disgraceful and boring style. This fight tonight was as unimpressive as the Mormeck fight. In fact, Mormeck was a better opponent in every sense. The only belt Macklin will ever wear is one he purchases at a store.

I simply don't have a very high opinion of Haye as a heavyweight. That was a gimme for Wlad.

Pavlik wasn't at his best against Serge, but I still think he was a better middleweight than Haye was a heavyweight. He actually didn't look that bad against Rubio, that other guy, and Martinez.

The Taylor that Pavlik stopped is also much better than anyone Haye has beaten at heavy.

Haye has beaten 4 joke opponents at heavy, and somehow people thought he had a legit chance of beating wald pussy.

 

It was that and then going up to 160 and absolutely schooling Pavlik that put him top 3 p4p. Pavlik was still considered the goods despite his loss to Hopkins.

PS-Gwynedd is nice. Was there six months ago.

 

I've been critical of Martinez, but I don't see the comparison to wald pussy. I liked the way he went into 'fuck you I'm going for the KO' mode after the KD.

I still think Pacquiao should have fought him at middle for history.
