Disagree 100% with Free Ike's assesment of Sergio Martinez. He's not "running" at all. He circles the opponent and darts in and out of range. Macklin had a style that did better than most against that tonight. I think one of Martinez's strong points with that style is he has the opponent constantly thinking about HIS strategy rather than their own.

martinez is pretty fucking old, but still one of the best fighters on the planet right now. he can only fight those willing. if u want to say hes not exciting that is one thing, to say he isnt good is bullshit

Exactly. Its like Hopkins, fast-forwarded. Keep the other guy worrying about what you are going to do.

With Martinez, you are worrying about the left hand or the right hand to the head.

With Hopkins, it was the left hand or the right hand to the back of the head.

Same philosophy though, keep the other guy guessing.

Incorrect, Martinez was up by 4 (105-101) on two cards but only after the 10-7 11th round. It was even on Julie Lederman's card (103-103), which was a bit of a surprise.

    agREED...

From that Moment On, Martinez was INTENT on Getting Macklin Outta There...DECISIVELY Winning Every Round Thereafter, Bloodying Macklin & STOPPING him...

Yep. Even the very end of the knockdown round Martinez started bashing him. Like a switch went off in his brain.

    Agree to DISagree then...

Martinez is a NATURAL Counterpuncher...SMARTLY, Macklin was Able to DICTATE to Martinez, by Outwaiting him, Forcing the Natural Counterpuncher Into LEADING...

Martinez ENGAGED More than Macklin Did & Landed the CLEANER, HARDER, More EFFECTIVE Shots by a Considerable Margin...It's COMICAL that an ADMITTED FAN of Chris Byrd's , would have the Fucking Audacity to Classify Sergio Martinez as a "Runner"...

Martinez is Tommy Hearns or Julian Jackson, by Comparison...

WTF is this bullshit floating around about Martinez being behind on all cards? Fightnews even say this and call it a "come from behind stoppage". Where did this crap come from?

    Here is the scorecard

someone read the graphic wrong. Sergio Pussy was ahead on 2 cards and even on Harold Leterman's mutt daughters card.

Chris Byrd didn't run. He was what people said Pernell Whitaker was except without the excessive holding. Byrd also worked most of the round because he couldn't crack and egg to build up points. Byrd's crime was he was a boxer /counterpuncher and heavyweights are supposed to be punchers. Once again you compare Apples to Oranges. I find it hard to believe anyone likes watching Sergio Pussy fight. He is a shameless runner and a disgrace. My god, if Sergio Pussy fought Wald Pussy, Sergio pUSSY MIGHT set the ring on fire due to friction from him running in circles.

Byrd didn't run from either of the Klitchko's in 3 fights.

Martinez would beat any middleweight in history apart from King Carlos and Haggles.

Is that a joke. The fucking guy went life and death with Kelly Pavlik. Martinez has beaten no one. I like Kelly but even when he was undefeated I said he wasn't good. TBH, I thought Kelly would bash Sergio pussy and I was wrong. Sergio Pussy needed 2 tries to beat Paul Williams. GTFO of here with that shit!!!

It was great when Byrd walked Vitali down and made him quit.

He tore a rotator cuff, something I have done. It is not pleasant. Vitali has proven he will walk through fire with his eyeball hanging from his head. Vitali is as tough as they come. He said he wouldn't risk permanent injury unless it was for the championship. SERGIO Pussy will quit once he holds still long enough to get a bloody nose.

:lol:to his cornerman in the fight with Dzindzuruk..."La cica la cica!!!"

Martinez has a few wrinkles, a few angles, but his comp is dust and I can't see how he maintains this lofty position he enjoys. It seems that to cod people all one need have is some flash and some pizazz and some "SkillZ".

Funny you Compare Byrd to Whittaker, who was the Quintessential CIRCLER...Because That's what Martinez Did Last Night, Homey..."Running" Suggests that Martinez is RELUCTANT to Stand in the Pocket, which is Utter Bullshit...Are You REALLY Saying that???...

You Live in a World of EXTREMES, which is Why REED Christened You "Shits & Giggles" in the 1st Place...Latching Onto Byrd as Some Sort of MACHO, Beacon of Pugilistic ACTION & Being FORCED into Feigning CONSISTENCY on that Matter, is your Ultimate Undoing, & as Such, REPEATEDLY Bites you In the Ass when you Try to Get All High & Mighty, Denigrating Fighters of Martinez's Ilk...Sorry, but "Runners" Don't KO Paul Williams THE WAY Martinez Did...Or DROP Williams in their Initial Fight...Or BUST UP Pavlik THE WAY Martinez Did...

Again, Martinez is Hearns or Julian Jackson, Compared to Byrd...

I'm all eyes for the above plonk, it was never more riotous at the curtain for Williams victory,.. Paul flailed more, dabbed more, and was the primary aggressor. But Sergio moved, grooved, and wobbled his torso teasingly like meat on a string, and most importantly, his mittens were impressionably swift,..ooooh and ahhhhh..''hard to see'', ''pretty'',...the quicker the cock flutters it's wings, the better chance of a mate, it is the most popular fetish within the boxing community, :shit: that's all there is to it,.. pushing sexual delights into the scoring criteria at the expense of proper violence is well worth a forum brawl.

SHITS AND GIGGLES has forgotten more about boxing than you will ever know. Martinez has made a career out of one lucky shot. He fights for 45 seconds a round. He stays in the pocket for 3 seconds and runs away. If Martinez isn't a runner, you don't believe in runners. The guy has beaten no one. He is the best fighter in one of the worst divisions in boxing at one of its lowest moments. 160 has been shit since 1995. Btw, SERGIO pUSSY IS 1-1 with someone as average as Paul Williams.BYRD HAS NOTHING to do with this. Other than being the parrot you are stating he was boring. bYRD HAD some horrendous fights but he had some good ones. Funny you like someone who lost to someone "far from world class" like Antonio Margarito. That's right. Margarito knocked sergio Pussy the fuck out.

I'm sure it was painful. Still, after throwing a bunch of punches with both hands every round, I laughed when Chris Byrd walked him down and made him quit.

  29. LATIN KING

    LATIN KING Undisputed Champion

At one point I thought people wer overrating both Martinez and Donaire. They put those guys behind Floyd and Manny in the pfp lists. It took Floyd and Manny longer than that to reach that status.

But Both are good, speaking of Martinez he is athletically gifted. Not the best boxing skills but he is a pretty agressive counter puncher.

Martinez is a guy that started boxing at 20 years old. you can argue he has over achieved by being the middleweight champion.

If the guy is so mediocre like some of you make him out to be why is everyone from 154 to 160 so scared of him?

Cotto is such a punk that he wouldn't fight him at 154 or 160 but has said he would consider Chavez jr. at 160?

It's fucking obvious nobody around those weight classes want anything to do with him. But the Chavez ducking is shameful.

Chavez Sr. said the fight will happen September 15th this year.....we'll see!

Please, Pavlik is a 6'2 powerpunching beast of a middleweight. Pavlik would be a handful for any MW in history unless he has the flu.

And Martinez schooled him in his second fight at middleweight.

The proof is in the pudding, you were amazed that Martinez bashed Pavlik.

Also regarding the Plasterito fight, you realise that Martinez had been a pro for a little over 2 years, and had first stepped into a boxing gym a couple of years before that?
