    Whitaker/Chavez is up there

Also, I figured DLH/Quartey would be a great fight but, despite a handful of exciting rounds, it was as dull as paint drying

Tito/Vargas was a no-brainer, expected a great fight and got one

I was pumped for Hopkins/Tito because at the time I loved Bernard and I was absolutely sure he'd fight a controlled fight and turn the guy all night. I said it to anyone who would listen. I've never been more happy about being correct.

Lewis/Golota... a buddy and I decided to buy the PPV. We really thought Golota would give Lewis hell based off of the Bowe fights. We told everybody we talked to, a lot of guys who knew next to nothing about boxing but were saying "Lewis will kill him, white guys can't fight" and we would dismiss them as ignorant buffoons in the way serious fans of a particular sport often do when presented with generalizations from "outsiders"... yes, we felt very sure of ourselves as we sat down to watch what promised to be a brutally difficult fight for Lennox, we would be able to "tsk. tsk. tsk." the naysayers the following monday, pointing out that yes, Lennox won, but he was in trouble and had it not been for the two deductions, he would have lost a split decision, and so much for assuming a white guy from Poland can't fight... We sat, eyes glued to the TV and before we could even relax, BANG! BOOM! BANG! fight over, the winner by brutal, humiliatingly easy KO- Lennox Lewis

:l1: Must've sucked being you. They were right all along. They didn't need to watch boxing to know more about the sport than most of us hardcore fans.

Benn-McClellan. The build up here was HUGE. I was only a teenager, but I remember it like it was yesterday. The horrible thing is that it is the only fight in my lifetime which delivered what was promised: sheer, unadulterated violence.

I felt very disappointed with the whole build up to the fight..it was bullshit..just trying to take the money from our pocket...thieving bastards. I guess i felt like those people who believe Pac and Mayweather want to steal their money by fighting inferior fighters..i never felt like that about those two fuckers, but I did for Tyson vs. Lewis.. ....IS ON....yeah 6-7 years too late...

    Probably Lewis/Holyfield.

I make no apologies for looking forward to Lewis/Tyson. I was young, the hype and media was like nothing I had ever experienced, Lewis was my favourite boxer and Tyson was this insane wild card. They got me back then, but wouldn't anymore.

This might be a weird one....but...

    DLH vs Derrell Coley

Derrell is a friend of a friend and this dude was talking tons of shit prior to the fight

If you guys remember...DLH made some statement about how black fighters couldn't take it to the body...

derrell was talking all kinds of shit... The mutual friend of ours was saying Coley was promising everyone DLH wouldn't even see the 4th round lol

    De La Hoya vs Trinidad

I was incredibly excited about this fight. I even had dreams about watching it live! I was counting the days with great anticipation. I was so sure Tito was going to expose Oscar and KO him after a brutal beating. Of course the fight didn't turned out to be the promised 'fight of the millenium' and the result left a sour taste in my mouth. I just couldn't celebrate Tito's victory like all my fellow ricans were doing. Deep down I knew he got a gift that night. I wanted the rematch badly. It never materialized.

Oscar De la Hoya v Felix Trinidad.

From mid-96, this was the fight that everyone wanted to see because in a lot of people's eyes, neither guy had stepped-up and it was a Top Rank-Bob Arum fighter vs ShowTime-Don King Fighter.

Tyson-Spinks was the first fight my friends and I truly planned a night around. Of course it had everything to do w/ the hype and Tyson being Tyson at the time. Still, was the first fight/event I was old enough to appreciate where everyone I knew had to make sure they saw it - or, all 91 seconds of it as turned out to be the case.

that was one of the best ever

    i have it on tape..

the funny thing is that people forget that a lot of people thought spinks was a HUGE step up for Mike and was maybe just too good

on the VHS tape i have of it.. they walk around asking fighters, writers and fans and it's about 50-50
