Also, despite picking Rios over him, Gamboa would have beaten Saturday's Rios with ease. I hope he feels like the mug he is for not taking the fight.

 

The fact that he lost pretty much every early round to Acosta is all that needs to be said. If Acosta was a bit more durable he'd have beaten Rios easy. He's a no skill brawler and not even a very entertaiing one.

Rios lost some of the early rounds but kept coming and eventually broke him down. Same with the Peterson fight in both fights he was the underdog and won big.

I honestly think they stayed at 135 for the money fight in Gamboa. According to Rios himself he said that once that fell off he wasnt' interested in Abril but Top Rank pushed it on him to keep the date.

I think at 140 Rios will look great again. I mean great in a brawler kind of way. No sense in ripping Rios for lack of defense or skill. It is not what he brings to the table and it is not how he became known.

Same with Garcia I think he is a pretty good trainer. People look at guys like Rios and Margarito like he can only train brawlers.

Despite getting properly lit up in the early going against Acosta, it was highly impressive the way Rios just kept on coming, never lost heart or got remotely discouraged, and just broke him down and took him out.

I'm very interested to see how Rios is at 140.

You are exactly right. Nobody demanded a fight between Gamboa and Rios. It was Gamboa's idea to fight Rios because he figured he could beat him, make a career high payday and become a superstar.

 

to me, rios actions justified gamboa not taking the fight. would it have been better for gamboa to show up in vegas and then back out when rios missed weight? i guess it would have at least meant we wouldnt have been subjected to that abomination of a fight with abril

 

Rios said that when the Gamboa fight was off it became harder to be motivated to make 135. Which makes sense, Abril is a nobody. A big fight everybody wanted to see went to a meaningless one nobody cared about.

 

not buying it. before that he blamed it on the climate in the mountains when he trained with margarito and his diet. the guy simply is dead at 135lbs and gamboa woulda been fucked over in a no win situation facing the guy

 

Rios isn't even that big, he must be lazy. Abril is bigger than Rios.

 

Acosta isn't very good, that is the point. If Rios can't bully someone and wear them down, he's losing. He has nothing else to offer. There will never be a plan B if he's losing a fight.
