Truth is Stranger (& Often MORE INTERESTING) than Fiction... In Boxing, Most of the REAL LIFE Characters, Angles & Stories are BETTER than the Hollywood MANUFACTURED One's...Or Flicks are Loosely BASED off of GENUINE Pugilistic Occurences... 1 of REED's All Time FAVORITE "Angles" was that of Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini...Father-Son Shit to the CORE, which is Where REED's Passion for the Sport is Derived... Ray Sr.'s Boxing Career is Cut Short by the War & he's Never Able to Fight for or Win a World Title...Ray Jr. Makes it his LIFE's MISSION to Get that Title for his Pop's & CBS Chronicled Quite a Few of the Stops on that Journey... The Mancini Story Actually Made People Temporarily DISLIKE Alexis Arguello (Boxing's Quintessential NICE Guy), for VIOLENTLY Shitting on Ray Jr's Quest...& When "Boom Boom" KO'ed Art Frias in the 1st Round, REED Felt as if He'd Won a Championship HIMSELF!... What are some of Your Favorite REAL LIFE Boxing Stories and Angles???... REED:fightme:
The in ring moment, after fight, where Alexis Arguello pays tribute to Ray's father & their relationship was genuinely touching:Thumbs:
The Lewis/Rahman lead-up to the rematch was great I thought. The cocky Brit, the Baltimore bum...both guys fighting and smashing up the set on ESPN, lots of disrespect thrown in, and one dude gets KTFO brutally and is now almost penniless after making bad decisions with his money. They should make a movie of it.
That was some serious shit bro. Rahman called Lennox gay on tv and Lennox got so pissed off and offended by such remark that he proceeded to hug Rahman and gently lay him on a table and lay on top of him.
I thought it was a funny moment.:: Lewis then said "Bring your Sister!" and Rahman was like "Whoa Whoa...don't be saying nuthin' about my family...." Rahman after winning the title thought he was the sh*t. Arrogant f*ck got blasted out and put back in his place in a hurry.
He turned down a shit load of guaranteed money in the process because he figured he would KO Lewis easily again.
Alexander Povetkin's dead daddy's spirit helping him to victory over Ruslan Chagaev was very touching
For some reason I found this particular post of yours very unreadable. The GREAT Muhammad Ali coming back from a forced exile to lose to Frazier getting dropped in the 15th round, then coming back and lose to Norton getting his jaw broken. Then to see both Frazier and Norton destroyed in 2 rounds each by a new kid on the block, the undefeated George Foreman. Have everyone call Foreman a bigger, better and more powerful Sonny Liston. Then have Ali against all odds come and knockout this very Foreman. Sylvester Stalllone couldn't have written a more dramatic script for a boxing film.
Barry McGuigans father singing "Danny Boy" instead the Irish Anthem so as to maintain some decorum between the Protestant and Catholic factions when McGuigan fought Pedroza for the title back in 1985. McGuigan was from a town very near the border and had married a Protestant girl, smack bang in the middle of "The Troubles" [by that stage the IRA was bombing England proper] and had to proceed very carefully accordingly. His father singing a non-partisan song went a long way to keeping things calm on what could have turned into a very ugly evening in Northern Ireland and England. <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/p0ivo1kp3jQ?version=3&feature=player_detailpage"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/p0ivo1kp3jQ?version=3&feature=player_detailpage" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="360"></object>
What's everyone singing at the start there? I take it it isn't En-ger-land?:: Sounds like a phenomenal atmosphere. Great fight.
Yup. He signed with the devil Don King and is now almost broke. Don King basically handed Rahman $5 million in cash inside a bag and Rahman signed immediately. :l1:
His style was the one I tried to use when I boxed. I should not have attempted that. My skill level is more on John Ruiz's level.
 Yeah, a guy has to be pretty unique physically and mentally to fight his style. I'm with you, I'd be in the Ruiz camp.
I was built like him as a kid. He and Tommy Hearns were my heros because they are skinny. I still think of myself as skinny , but I weigh 200 pounds and am not fat. I filled out. I was long and lean as a kid. Actually, my style really turned out to be like Vnce Phillips but without the right hand. I would fall all over the place and throw a bunch of punches to stay on balance. I mostly did Muay Thai though. My reflexes were all but gone by college due to my degenrerative back condition. So I switched to Muay Thai because it is more a heavyweght pace. Boxing is all about reflexes.
You mean the former WBA Champion who beat Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman, Kirk Johnson, Andrew Golota, Fres Oquendo, and Jameel McCline? You must be one skilled motherf*cker, Ike. LOL!
I was 6'2, 155 when I graduated High School In my 20s I started to eat a lot and do manual labor and turned into this 240 pound dude. I'm not fat like a true fat guy (Joe King or John Candy) but I could shed a few inches off the mid-section... could use a bit of tuning up. I'm too slow to box, even if I was 175 pounds. Plus my skin is absurdly Celtic: translucent, lightly freckled, ruddy and ridiculously sensitive... I am lucky I don't end up with 10-stitch cuts above my eyes from hitting a heavybag. I have high cheekbones as well. It's a disaster, Ike, it really is. A well placed slap would probably open a cut on me. Even if I won the fight, I'd look like I'd lost it.
