If this was at 160 lbs. I'd tentatively pick Hopkins, but 157 is a total game-changer. I'd go with McCallum
I don't think it makes much of a difference to be honest. Hopkins used to weigh in below 160 all the time... in fact, if memory serves, he weighed in at 157 for the Trinidad fight.
Yeah, the 3lb difference helps McCallum more than it hurts Hopkins. If that makes any sense in fight where they're fighting each other. Which it doesn't.::
For the record though, if its the McCallum that slaughtered Michael Watson, then this would be a VERY close fight. If forced to pick, I'd say Hopkins 7-5, but it really could go either way.
I'm a big fan of both, but a bigger fan of Mike. A true scientist in the business of hurt and not be hurt. Both men are perfect stylistically for each other, neither would have to hunt the other down, I just think McCallum was a shade better at that game.

Hopkins is one of those fighters who would not translate well. He dug up graveyards for his 160 reign. It was as bad as the much maligned reigns of Joe Calzaghe or Sven Ottke. At least, Joe and Sven didn't make superfights with 154 pounders and build their legacy on it. The best fighter he fought once his long defenses started was Jermain Taylor. That was the best actual middleweight he fought. He also lost both fights:giggle::giggle: I am not sure why it is but fighters don't know how to fight anymore today most of them. Donaire would be a featherweight in the 80's, and he would get ass raped by the likes of Sanchez, Nelson, Pedroza, Fenech. Gamboa would fare better against those guys than Donaire.
