One fight can really change people's perception.

One way to look at it but its wide open to speculation over guy's 'true' size. You can also get absurdities like the folk who ranked Byrd above Wlad 'p4p' the week after Wlad spanked him 120-105. P4Ps already such a subjective business I think it's good to stick some terra firma under the process

Oddly enough, Marquez is the only one he struggles/losses to.

Did Pacquiao went up in weight to have it easy and avoid the tough fights at the lower weights?

P4P is bullshit. I don't want to hear about Sergio Pussy that overated sucker of Kocks.

I thnk Ward should be ranked top fighter in the world right now based on his resume. He ran the table fighting the bast people in his division and no one else in boxing can claim that save for THE Brothers K who reign over a shit division. I hate Ward and his illegal shit style. He is a dirty piece of shit, but he deserves a hgher ranking than Floyd who hasn't fought anyone good in a half a decade.

Floyd is not number 1 p4p.He's a part time fighter.

Edit:I would put Ward ahead of Floyd

Agreed. Floyd has the skills, bt Floyd hasn't even proven that he is the best fighter of his own size, never mind p4p. The best (most superior) fighters p4p now are Ward, Donaire and Wlad in whatever order

So beating Froch, who most people here think is a skill-less bum, makes you P4P no.2? Remarkable, that.

Most people think Froch is a skill-less bum? I don't know about that.

He sure as hell wasn't in many people's P4P lists at any stage. He certainly wasn't anywhere near no.2

Kessler, Abraham and Froch & really pretty comfortably at that. He's up there.

Right. It's not just Froch. The Kessler win was his best.

If Froch had beaten Ward I'd have bet a million quid that Froch would have been nowhere near no.2 P4P.

Let me be clear; I have no problem with Ward in a top ten. Top 2 is madness, though.

Well, no. He lost to Kessler, who Ward also beat.

    But I agree - I don't have Ward top-2 either. Top-5 I'd say is probably fair.

I don't recall anyone having Calzaghe at no.2 P4P after he beat Kessler. A younger Kessler no less.

    Kessler and Froch.

  18. Hut*Hut

Because Froch had already lost to Kessler and arguably lost to Dirrell. Ward has absolutely breezed every single guy he's fought.

  19. meetthefeebles

Which brings us back to my starting point. Beating Froch (and an older Kessler) does not a no.2 make.

I would probably put Ward ahead of Martinez. Ward beat better guys.

  21. Hut*Hut

    Hut*Hut The Mackintosh of temazepam

It does when there's nobody more deserving of the position

And stop saying '(an older) Kessler' please or I'll start prefacing his name with '(a more experienced & mature) Kessler' every time I mention him  I'll do it, dont think I won't!

  22. Hut*Hut

And is flat out better. By quite allot.

  23. meetthefeebles

Ward did not 'absolutely breeze' against Froch. He won an 8-4, 7-5 fight. People scored that fight very badly: Froch won at least three of the last four rounds IMO, for example.

Also, if Froch is so average, how does beating him make Ward so brilliant as to be the second best fighter on the planet? No-one had Ward anywhere near that level after he 'absolutely breezed' Kessler, but a combination of that win, a guy Froch schooled and Froch ('who already lost to Kessler and arguably lost to Dirrell') makes you a P4P no.2 guy?

    MTF :nono:

 Do that and Hopkins gets the same treatment in our endless Calzaghe discussions...

  27. Hut*Hut

When did I say Froch was so average? He's good. He's on the level of Kessler and Dirrel which is a level below Ward.

I ranked Ward high before that fight anyway. If Ward has moved up in the collective perception it's mainly because Pac, Martinez & Donaire looked like horse meat last time. Its a default promotion.

    I think 3 is fair.

    1) Floyd *spit*
    2) Pac
    3) Ward
    4) Donaire
    5) Bradley
    6) Martinez
    7) Vitali
    8) Marquez
    9) Who cares.

winning 3 of the last 4 rounds when you lost 7 of the first 8 is like closing the gap from a 30 point deficit to 15 in garbage time of an nba fourth quarter.
