there were a few close rounds, but cotto didn't win more than 3 rounds. cotto tried to adjust and did so successfully in spurts, but in the end, mayweather's the king of figuring out his opponents even when they adapt.

Yeah Cotto looked taller at the weigh in but Floyd looked much taller in the fight- thats because Floyd immediately knows he can fight tall and not be easily hit. Cotto bundles up because its a poor mans answer for a defense. Put on the ear muffs, tuck up, now you are safe. For Floyd, he doesn't have to bother with that shit, he can stand tall and give himself the platform to get his own shots off.

I would respectfully suggest that there is not much figuring out to Cotto. If anyone did any figuring out, it was Cotto with Floyd. I gave Cotto 4 rounds, 2 is a disgrace, even three is a bit shy.

Dunno why Cotto punked out of the ring interview, he did better than expected.

The Mayweathers and their flunkies are like a freshly laid cat-shit. You just don't want to be in the same room as them for very long.

I must say I can actually feel the frustation of his opponents when he fights. You can feel how hideously hard to hit he is, and how frustrating it must be.

Just imagine if Floyd was taller, like 5'11 or so, I would if he'd be even harder to hit. Probably not against smaller guys, but would have even more reach.

Perhaps the most entertaining mayweather jr fight I've attended. Up there with the jesus chavez fight. Cotto won 3 or 4 rounds tops

The fight was even after 8 rds but May swept the last 4, as great fighters do.

    He's slowed though, no doubt.

I noticed that too, slower and more predictable than he used to be, bending down to the right almost all the time, left shoulder up, Cotto was timing his movements and managed to pop him with a few jabs.

Still has the best defense in boxing though.

Floyd sure looked like complete sh*t tonight against a shot fighter!:laugh11:
Old man better retire before he gets exposed by Pacquiao.

He makes one fatal error. When he moves to protect his head, he exposes his spinal column down his left side. Most guys try the right-hand-left-hook, which is traditional, when its the right hook swept down to the body they should be trying for.

THere is only ONE place that right hand should be going and it is DOWNSTAIRS, straight into his back and ribs.

Sergei Lyachovich's favourite punch was the right hand to the ribs/hip area. Brewster just had no idea how to deal with it. Fraud is waiting to be exposed but he'll probably not stick around now. Too bad. Old man feeling is age and not happy that a shot fighter like Cotto is giving him that hard of a fight.

I agree. I had the fight closer however. Cotto fought a good fight overall.

Cotto's defense was impressive tonight. It was because of his defense he was able to stay in the fight. Cotto sbould've used the left hook up top earlier than he did.

Agreed, the Eastern Euros try a right hand to the body, its part of why I never believed the myth of them having a standard, basic style.

    [IMG][IMG]

The right hand swept into Floyds unprotected spine and ribs when he is looking for the same punch but to the head........could pay rich dividends.

Another good shot, I think it was Merchant who alluded to what SRL had to say about it- forget the jaw, just hit the top of the dome.

This is why I think Floyd would have struggled in the old days, not because of some nostalgic brilliance of the old timers, but because of the fact that you would have guys hitting you everywhere, and being allowed to hit you everywhere.

Floyd would get broken up by Sandy Saddler at 130. Cos Sandler is so great? No. Cos Sandler wouldn't be bothered by Floyds awkward frame, he'd be bombing Floyd from a platform of his own, AND he'd be looking for any gap, legal or not, to hit Floyd.

Guys like that wouldn't be turning their nose up at a massive gaping target like Floyds unprotected left side. Duran would be in there like shit, wailing away with errant right hands.

mayweather fought his ass off tonight though. he threw more combinations than he ever did or needed to. i thought it was a very good fight. mayweather isn't quick on his feet as he was in lighter weights, but his right hand is still unbelievably fast.
