This fight showed how much speed/reflexes Floyd has lost. He even tired toward the end. Pacquiao should fight him already.
I think its possible you can argue 4 rounds for Cotto but thats it, really. Floyd won that fight pretty clearly. Had they fought 5 years ago, it would have been a similar fight.
2, 3, 6, 8 - that's 4 I've named easily. I honestly think some people were swayed by the idiot commentary, it was a close fight, in many rounds Cotto was the one dictating the pace and style of the fight, making Floyd uncomfortable, and landing solid bodyshots and meaty jabs.
Are you serious? Pacquiao agreed to fight him 50/50 including drug tests, Floyd was the one that bitched out saying 50/50 was no longer an option, and offering Pacquiao bullshit like a fixed purse :atu:
I'm more convinced that ever that a good jab is the key to beating Floyd. Cotto was bouncing his head around every time he threw the jab. He just didn't throw it enough.
I dont like that subjective shit. Did Cotto force Floyd back or did Floyd decide to fight off the ropes at times? We dont know and it doesn't matter - boxing is about landing punches, not where in the ring they land
Ultimately it's about punches landed I agree, but stuff like this can be factored in too. Cotto controlled Floyd in those rounds, and made Floyd fight the style of fight Cotto wanted to fight. Now I agree in that if Cotto forced a style of fight that Floyd didn't want, and got lit up and outlanded 2 to 1, that goes out the window, it's irrelevant. But in a round where one guy is clearly controlling the style of the fight, and they land equal punches, who do you give the round to? I'll give the round to the guy who has taken the other guy out of his comfort zone. And for example, I consider rounds 2 and 3 to be like this to an extent, though I also think Cotto landed the harder punches in those rounds. Oh and by the way, Floyd looked uncomfortable, it wasn't his choice, that was clear to me. Floyd very rarely looks flustered, but he did here, and I think that was in large part to Cotto's physical strength, Floyd has been stronger than everyone he's fought since Oscar, and even Oscar does have a physical style so didn't use his strength.
The copy of the fight isn't online anymore. Next time I get a chance I'll take a look again at 2 and 3, but I'm pretty sure Floyd landed 80 or 90% of the quality punches in those rounds.
I was objective scoring it by the way. I laughed at ILLU for scoring round 1 for Cotto. Floyd won it clear as day, along with a few other rounds, but I just think Cotto's work is being underrated. Especially bodyshots, he was landing good ones in the rounds he won that bothered Floyd and slowed him down a bit. Rounds 2 and 3 were close, but I think Cotto won them.
It's cool. We're really arguing over nothing since we all agree Floyd won. I was just surprised when I get home and saw all these 4-4 cards going into the 9th in the round by round thread. Wasn't the fight I saw live or on replay.
At the end of the 10th, I had Cotto needing to win the 11th and 12th to have any hope of a draw. I just felt, by that same token, that to give the guy two rounds was unfair.
Fair enough. I personally feel like Cotto's effort is being overrated, he could and should have given more of himself early in the fight - but I get what you're saying.
I had it 117-111. Could see a round going one way or another. Anything more than that, and you had to have been watching it drunk or giving Cotto extra credit just because it's Floyd.
