Avengers -- marking a major victory for Disney and Marvel Studios -- easily dethroned Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, which opened to $169.2 million last summer.
Avengers opened a week ago overseas, earning a whopping $441.5 million through Sunday. The pic's worldwide total of $641.8 million has already surpassed the lifetime totals of Captain America: The First Avenger ($364 million), Thor ($449 million), Iron Man ($585 million) and Iron Man 2 ($624 million).

Avengers is now positioned to reach $1 billion in global grosses.

The tentpole played evenly in terms of age, with 50 percent of the audience under the the age of 25 and 50 percent over. Couples made up 55 percent, families 24 percent and teens 21 percent. Males represented 60 percent of the audience.

Coming in second place was Think Like A Man at $8 million.

Yup the crowded lines for this film are ridiculous. The Matinee showing I went today was sold out, but I purchased a ticket for the next showing and then sneaked in immediately in the earlier one screen...I feel sorry for whoever didn't get a seat because of me...well, not much.

Final numbers are in and The Avengers actually made MORE money than it was estimated: $207.4 million! Lets see if The Dark Knight Rises comes close to that record number. I predict like $150 million or less, but not nearly close to the Marvel team numbers. I did an unofficial survey among all the people I know who watched the first The Dark Knight and those who haven't and surprisingly not many people are planning to watch that film. The most common response I get is "I'll wait til it gets to Redbox".

I never understood the obsession with Batman. And Bale sounds like he's got throat cancer or some sh*t in the role. I had to mute the tv and turn the subtitles on whenever he was in the Batman character. Hearing him was worse than nails on a chalkboard.
Batman's a cunt too. Sh*tty character. DC basically only has Superman and Batman. Marvel is way better.

I tend to prefer Marvel too...but DC has way more than Batman and Superman.

Never heard of Flash, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern?

You're very protective of Christopher Nolan and his Batman franchise.

Bottomline is...if there was a secret DC vs Marvel movie competition going on this year...Marvel has just set the bar very high indeed with The Avengers.

It's not just a fun film, it's actually a very good film.

Yes but I'm talking about the movies. I like Wonder Woman. Green Lantern movie wasn't too good.
I'm looking forward to Superman next year.

Considering he hasnt really made a bad movie, his work speaks for itself. Marvel set the bar high for what? An action 3D movie? Who gives a shit? You are right. It was a very good film. The Batman movies were fucking Great.

That being said, what does how much it makes idicate? What point will be made? Avengers appeals to a much broader audience. No shit it will do better. There were screaming little kids in the theater with me just as excited as 40 year old men in there. Both screaming like a bunch of Women at a Justin Bieber Concert.

None of that matters tho. We all know batman will be a better movie.

The guy who plans Bane is a f*cking midget. WTF is up with that? He's like 3" shorter than Bale. Where the f*ck does that make sense in the comics? Bane is supposed to be a hulk.

I agree with Hanz. DC only has Batman and Superman. I never really got into their other lame superheros. Marvel is where it's at for comics.

Batman is for f*cking fags! And the last Batman movie has so many f*cking plotholes, it was ridiculous. Like when the f*ck did that clown Heath Ledger as the Joker have the time and manpower to set up the necessary amount of dynamite to blow up the building? Get the f*ck out of here with that sh*t! :laugh11:

Batman appeals to the same audience, Godfather. LOL!
Little kids would be happy to see a guy in a rubber suit with fake muscles flying around on a wire, riding around on a cool looking bike and sh*t.

I agree that the Dark Knight was "fucking great" but the first one was merely good.

Disagree. I actually preferred the first one slightly. I thought they were both "fucking great".

X men 2 is still my favourite superhero flick though...and X men first class is second to it.

Read 100 Bullets. They should make that into a tv show, it would be a hit.

You take your experience of going out to see Avengers and noticing little kids around you at the theater as a way to make the claim that Avengers is a kids film and Batman is for adults?
These are freaking Superheroes, Godfather! It's a world of make-believe. Batman is just as stupid and unrealistic as any other superhero movie, no matter how good Ledger and Bale were in their roles.
Just because more people MAY like Avengers more than Batman doesn't mean Avengers is a kids film. 50% of the audience attending The Avengers is over age 25.

IMO opinion Christopher Nolan is overrated. Three of his films I had a hard time watching because I found them uninteresting and boring. To each their own. I like dramas, period pieces, epic films, popcorn mindless humor and anything that can entertain me. Any film that puts me to sleep out of boredom is not even close to good in my book. The only Nolan film that truly was good was The Dark Knight and mainly because of Ledger as the joker since Two Face was like an afterthought tossed at the end. And even this film doesn't have much of a repeat viewing value. Tim Burton did a better Batman IMO. The Burton films I can rewatch anyday. I am sure Ann Hathaway's Catwoman will not make people forget Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman. But I see the little tribute to Julie Newmar in the new silly costume and is nice for 10 seconds. Bane looks like a bald Hannibal Lecter and that is not a compliment. I hope the film is good, but Nolan's fans have been shitting on The Avengers box office potential for almost a year now. Lets see how it performs. It doesn't have anything to do with the film's quality, but the hype has been exaggerated for too long now.

Its time to grow up Panchy. Your childhood heroes are long gone. Time to turn the music down and give the Bat Dance a rest.

I agree with you. Batman is more for older audiences and the stories are more complex. There's really no way to say which is better between Batman and Avengers since they are directed at different audiences. The audience for Avengers is broader. I can see Batman fans watching The Avengers but I can't see as many Avengers lovers watching Batman. But it's silly to argue because both movies are gonna hit the billion dollar mark in worldwide grosses anyway.
To be honest, I'm looking much much more forward to Superman next year since Superman is what I grew up reading and was always my very favourite above all.

If only Marvel put that much effort into the X-men movies... The Avengers are lame-ass spandex-wearing super-heroes.
