He's not doing anything that clearly puts his ahead of Manny in terms of drawing power though.

Since when is Canelo a draw?

  3. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

Exactly. Canelo wasn't even mentioned on 24/7. People guy these cards because they want to see the main event.

More people buy this car than any since May/Oscar an Floyd's popularity is waning.

    Come on now.

Actually they had 5-10 minutes of him on one of the episodes...

But Canelo is not a PPV..Chavez JR. who fight in a lot of Pacquiao/Arum ppv fights is a much bigger draw..

I don't think that is the point here - the point is that there isn't a real gap between him and pacquiao anymore, and that was his one point of contention amongst the fans that supported his claim that he is more popular and should get a majority split of revenue (myself included for a long time).

These numbers from that behemoth are just speculation this early. I bet the official number will be higher

    HBO confirmed the numbers

He was fighting Mosley and Canelo is a popular mexican fighting on May 5th. It certainly didn't hurt the numbers.

Every site is reporting the same number.

David blane doing magic in the ring wouldnt hurt the number either. Doesnt mean people bought the shit because of him.

So you think if there was no undercard, just the main event it would have done the same numbers?

  13. steve_dave

    steve_dave Hard As Fuck

Yep. Maybe not no undercard, but it's really irrelevant who's fighting.

I will not buy some cards due to the undercard being garbage "filler"

Yeah, but you're not the target market for these huge PPVs

Mosley vs Alvarez definitely will have helped a bit. swayed mexican fans who mightve been on the fence. 1-200k maybe.

Boxing fans aren't the target market for boxing PPV? That's strange.

Agreed, it's not like Alvarez would do much on his own, but he would certainly help sales, especially amongst Mexicans.

Boxing cards aren't targeted towards cage-fighting fans, is what steve dave is saying.

Fraud F*ckweather proves he's not as big a draw as he thought he was. Good numbers but hasn't come close to hitting the 2 mill mark. But then again, people are streaming nowadays too or just going to bars or downloading off the internet or going on youtube before fight vids get pulled down.

Lol at some here acting as if Canelo is some pay per view superstar.

Look I'm no Mayweather apologist. I've criticized him plenty in the past.

Be that as it may, this pay per view cannot be viewed as a failure. Not if its the 2nd highest non-heavyweight pay per view in the history of boxing. This is an achievment PERIOD.

As far as Pacquiao goes, he is without a doubt the 2nd biggest ppv star in boxing. But I think this does confirm that Floyd is the bigger star.

50-50 is a fair split if we want to get technical about it but the bottom line is that if you go on sheer numbers, Floyd outdoes Manny.

60-40 or 55-45 is a fair split. Especially if its Pacquiao's biggest purse.

But I don't really care anymore. This fight should have happened back in 2010. Its tiresome.

don't get the "It's more than Manny has ever made" angle. Is he not allowed to make more because of what he's made in the past? That makes no sense.

Boxing PPvs are clearly not targeted towards hardcore boxing fans

If they were, they'd make no money because there are about 100 of us left in the US

No because boxing fans will order it no matter what. They are trying to get people who dont watch boxing often. Who make an event out of it. Who throw parties and invite family over and shit. People who probably know maybe 2 boxers, Manny and Floyd. MAybe Mike tyson too. Those are the idiots they were trying to get.

    I think that's highballing it.

Not these big ones, no. Boxing fans are going to buy anyway. These cards are built for average sports fans.

Exactly. You could hold Pac-Mayweather in my backyard if only hardcore boxing fans were invited.

  30. I'm inclined to agree that it should be 50-50. But if Floyd wants 55-45 Manny Pacquiao should fucking well take the money and make this fight happen!
