The important thing is that she is the first female boxer to qualify.

The big fight will be in London.

The Chinese is a tall, rangy and awkward southpaw that can stink out anyone with a herky jerky style.

What a surprise as once again we have cowards that won't box (or even attempt to learn) won't fight and jealous and envious little boys that live with their mommy trying to ruin a serious boxing thread because they are too scared to fight themselves.

Most of you jokers are in your 20's and 30's, and you ought to be in the gym rather than typing on a computer, but that is how scared you are.

dont act like my idea never crossed your mind. with the both of your genes, coupled with your immense boxing knowledge and experience, young Carlos Hegman could be the future of pugilism.

You are what..in your late 20's or early 30's, Neil?

It seems that you have too much free time on your hands, but it will be better served by going to a gym and learning the art yourself rather than just typing stupid shit on a computer.

I can see an abject shitbag like boss who is nearing 60 or so, but to a young man it seems like a waste of time to me when you could be doing something productive for the sport.

Since you live in LA, why don't you go and see Freddie at the Wild Card or one of the other fine gyms the area has, and see about contributing something to the sport in any capacity whether it be in fighting or officiating?

She impresses the hell out of me. No question.

But let's be clear. She is NOT the best amateur boxer in the US. Rau'shee Warren would be my pick.

And by the way, how is Gilbert Renteria a "National Champion"?

That comment would make me think he won a US National Championship. He hasn't as far as I know. I don't follow amateur boxing nearly as close as I used to, but I really catch-up in Olympic years. So enlighten me Karl if I'm missing something.

She is IMO a hell of a fighter, and people can say what they want to about her.

But I will say this: I have never seen such a dedicated athlete in all my years in boxing, and never one with the supreme confidence that she has in her trainer and abilities.

The kid sacrificed her whole life since she was 9, and has trained virtually nonstop.

It's amazing that a young girl gets into boxing. It's not like there are a ton of avenues to pursue the sport as a career or even a recreational hobby.

Maybe she'll do some crossover training and take up MMA where the women have a huge platform and are gaining some momentum.

she may as well make that switch now because there is no money to be made for her in boxing as a female.

I haven't heard about this girl but all the best for her.

That being said, including women's boxing to Olympics was, from the viewpoint of an Olympics-fanatic, fucking stupid move. The games are too big already so there should be a strict line with which new events are included. Women's boxing is so new, it's level is crap and people who practice it are so few that it doesn't belong in Olympics. Olympics are meant for the greatest athletes in the world, not for teen chicks who have worked out for two years

Agreed. They're thinking of getting rid of women's hockey from the winter olympics because the competition is a joke. The only game that's competitive at all is Canada vs the U.S. Any other game is an embarassing blowout.

other olympic sports are far worse..syn swimming, rhythm gymnastics...

i'm not looking foward to women's boxing in the oly's, but i think the talent level will be quite high and it will not look like toughman at all. Women's boxing has been around since the 90's and its look has changed a lot over the past 10 years or so

No. Those sports, stupid though they are, are far more competed than women's boxing. Give it another 15 years or so and maybe women's boxing becomes useful

I did some sparring with a couple of (low level) competitive female fighters and it was exactly like fighting a 12 year old boy. Except socially awkward.

I seriously doubt that any of these little childish posters that live with their mommy's making what they think are clever remarks have ever been in the ring themselves.
