Marvel The Avengers easily took the #1 spot for the third week in a row with a whooping $55 million climbing its domestic total to $457 million and claiming the sixth position in the All Time domestic box office chart thus becoming the fastest film to reach that position (17 days). The superhero dream team will easily push STAR WARS out of the fifth spot by tomorrow. How successful this film will be? it seems poised to take the #3 spot in the All Time domestic chart, but will it be able to pass Titanic numbers? Too early to tell. Meanwhile BATTLESHIP sank with a disappointing $25.3 million. The studio will not lose money since the film already recoup its investment internationally, but domestically it can be called a bomb. Another victim of the Avengers mania is the new Sacha Baron Cohen comedy The Dictator. With $17.4 million gross it made even less than Bruno when it opened. Dark Shadows fell disastrously to the fourth place in its second weekend with an anemic $12.7 million gross. The $150 million budgeted film will not recoup its investment domestically. The studio is hoping that Johnny Depp's international appeal can save this film. This is a major blow to both Depp's & Tim Burton's recent track records with big budget films.

I'd actually be surprised if it does beat the Avengers and if it doesn't suck. Going off the trailer the most I expect from it is to be mediocre. It couldn't be worst than the sequel though, if it tried.

Avengers is making mad money because of people like me. Just saw it for the second time last night. Love it!

"Banner now would be a good time to get angry"

"..see that's my secret.....I'm always angry"

[transforms into hulk and causes terror destruction and mayhem]

I read somewhere that a mother was telling her child after watching the Avengers, "Treasure this experience because this film will be to your generation what Star Wars was to mine." :kidcool:

It wont. Not even close. Today the world is much faster. Everyone is already looking for the next big movie. I guarantee you that people will not be talking about this movie in 30 years like they do starwars. Hell they wont be talking about it in 5.

Norton's been in one Marvel movie...does that make him obvious choice for Bruce Banner from now on?

People will stop talking about it by the end of the year. People will forget about The Avengers being anything really special when movies like Avatar 2 and Avengers 2 and Superman and Spiderman and Dark Knight Rises all these big CGI-fests come around. It's just the way times are nowadays. People looking for new sh*t always.

After taking MY child to see The Avengers, I said "Treasure this experience, because this film will be to your generation, what Porky's Revenge was to mine. Not enough nudity and a gym teacher that looks like The Hulk"

I don't think my child understood what I meant.

No, Ruffalo was better than Norton's version of Bruce Banner. You could tell right from the beginning that he was taking the role in a different direction, and his conversation with the Black Widow at the beginning was totally different: he was confident, bemused, humorous, and faintly menacing up to the point where he yells, "Don't LIE to me!!!" Then he goes back to confident, amused, reassuring, and calm.

He played it in an understated manner as if to say, "I've been through all this, and there's nothing you can do about it".

Anthony's right though - Mark Ruffalo's is superior to Eric Bana and Edward Norton combined - he actually makes the character of Banner far more interesting...

you think it's the actor or rather the script? sounds like the script has given the character some more dimension, plus the character has completely changed...it's not the same scared, insecure Bruce Banner that is trying to discover himself....how can you give Rufallo credit for that? "taking the character in a completely different direction" lol

hmmmm so maybe i should see this crappy movie sometime

when is it out on dvd so that i can download it for free?

Idiots usually laugh at something when they have no idea what they are laughing about, so it's good to see you following true to form.

I don't think it's the actor; I KNOW it's the actor because I've read a number of interviews with Ruffalo in which he went back and rewatched the tv series, saying he didn't want to copy other actors. He went to the point of contacting Edward Norton and said he didn't want to offend him even though he was replacing him.

He wanted to portray Banner as having grown older, wiser, and accepting the Hulk for what he is. Ruffalo's a cerebral actor who wanted to bring a different take to the character---and he did so, making his portrayal subtler than the other recent versions.

so you read it in an article, rather than figuring it out for yourself like you previously posted?

you read something, passed it off as your own intellectual insight on this forum (and to your co-workers probably), then to make yourself feel even smarter you called another person an idiot

Huh? I am a huge norton fan and not really a Ruffalo fan. I saw the movie. Ruffalo was good. The character was good too. Less is more here.

No more than you calling Anthony pathetic for no reason.

And while I read the articles about Ruffalo, I also saw the movie. By your own admission, you have not seen it and yet here you are arguing about whether it is the actor or the script. Like I said, you don't know what you're talking about.
