Which is a better movie? IMO, I don't think ANY case can be made for The Usual Suspects. Seven is a better movie, more re-watchable, and the ending is at least AS good as The Usual Suspects.

Anybody think The Usual Suspects is better?

I doubt I would like either of them that much now, but when I was a teenager, I preferred The Usual Suspects.

I think seven is better for Morgan's performance alone.

Seven definitely has more rewatch value. The usual Suspects is all about the mystery that gets solved at the end - Seven just happens to have a shocking ending. First time I watched I enjoyed usual Suspects more, though.

I'd say Seven is a little better. Both good tho.

Spacey was better in Seven as well.

Pitt "I seem to remember us knocking on your door."

Spacey "I also seem to remember me, breaking your face."

  8. Agreed.

Not even a competition as far as I am concerned. Se7en is clearly better and the se7en ending is actually better that the usual suspects ending.

The seven ending stays with you forever. One of the most SHOCKING experiences in movie history.

  9. word.

    Spacey was superb in Seven.

The Usual Suspects and it's not all that close.

    I actually prefer Usual Suspects

Pitt, who I think is a solid actor, was a little out of his depth in Seven, IMO

I enjoyed Seven, but the Usual Suspects is a really well done ensemble piece.

    Both are entertaining films, though

Word. The Usual Suspects got two nominations and two wins in the 1995 Academy Awards (Best Supporting Actor-Kevin Spacey) and Best Screenplay. Seven got only one nomination for Best Editing and did not won. The character of Keyser Soze is the stuff of cinema legends. Great film which in my opinion had the most brilliant ending I had ever seen. Seven was a more gorier Silence of The Lambs. I didn't like it that much when I first watched it and Brad Pitt was lame as usual. His 'what's in the box?' inquiry sounds extremely silly. Spacey is good, but not as memorable as Verbal in The Usual Suspects. What makes 'Suspects' so great is the combination of a brilliant script, good direction, nice editing job and superb acting by all the cast (well the Baldwin brother was merely okay, but Benicio Del Toro and the rest were great). I have watched The Usual Suspects many times and still is great. Seven I rewatched it recently and is better than I remembered it, but it doesn't hold a candle to the greatness of The Usual Suspects, Brian Singer's best film ever.

I think I need to rewatch the Usual Suspects. I was kind of confused the first time around and didn't enjoy it enough to rewatch it. I loved Seven right out the gate.

I preferred "The Usual Suspects", and even think it it has better re-watchable value. I think it's a fun watch regardless of the twist at the end.

Don't understand the claim Spacey is better in "Seven". He's in it for about 7 minutes. It's a fucking cameo.

Agree with CDogg. Pitt was not good in this film. I'd wager he'd do a much better job now if given another chance.

That said, not sure why the comparison. They're two completely different types of films. The only thing they have in common is Spacey and an end twist.

Seven. But it's a matter of taste. Usual Suspects is a great film too.

Spacey's 7 minutes stole the movie.

the ending to Seven blows...how is it even considered a twist?

I think Se7en is the better movie (despite Brad Pitt's shitty performance) but I enjoy watching Usual Suspects more, if that makes sense.

Kevin Spacey was a scene-stealer for sure in Se7en, but his Oscar for The Usual Suspects was well-deserved.

Se7en could have been awesome, but was ruined by Brad Pitt's performance and the lame ending. Usual Suspects is a better movie.

Fincher is a better overall Director then Singer...............but I gotta give Singer this matchup.

  26. I stand by that.

  27. Both great movies...but anyone who said/says "oh yah, I guessed what the ending would be about an hour from the end" seriously needs their fucking head kicking in.
