Looks like now the original plan for Canelo vs Kirkland will go through for Sept.

If not Kirkland, they were eyeing Austin Trout.

In other words, GB continues to keep Canelo FAR AWAY from Lara.

Lara is the new Bute. The guy has done nothing to justify the hype that people are scared of him. He has looked like shit plenty of times and beaten no one of note. Yeah, he beat Williams, but it was near the robbery it was made out to be. He won that fight, but the commentary was awful. I guess you dinks think a lot of Ronald Hearns. He is likely better than Bute though, but that isn't saying much.

Yup, Lara is being overhyped. I'd love to see Canelo fight Margarito. Just to watch a fun fight while it lasts.

Lara is an ELITE Level Cuban Fighter, Dude...In Terms of PEDIGREE he's in the Same Boat (or Life Raft, as the Case May Be) as Gamboa & Rigondeaux...

Nobody's Beating their Chest, Calling Lara the Next GREAT Fighter or Anything, but in Terms of EXPERIENCE, he has SHITLOADS MORE than Canelo Does & is Consequently a HIGH Risk, LOW Reward Fight...

He doesn't look anywhere near as good as Gamboa and Gondo.

I don't think pedigree counts for that much in the pros, there are plenty of guys with amazing amateur pedigrees who don't amount to much.

Lara looks like he can fight, and is fairly skilled, but Ike is right, he's looked average plenty of times, and the Paul he beat looked shot.

He's if anything less proven than the Ginger. A points win over a shot Paul williams and a draw over Molina? Really stellar record there

Lara looked impressive to me against Hearns. Makes the 'Martinez ruined Williams' talk even more ridiculous, to me. OT1H we have half of fightbeat lauding Lara as a potential elite talent (and he doesn't look far off) and OTOH we had Williams going tooth and nail with him held up as evidence of him as a spent force. Even after dominating the japanese guy 12-0 in his next fight. I guess it's moot & borderline distasteful to discuss now, but that line of thinking really is nothing but '0' worship in disguise.

If your Hearns and my Hearns are the same Hearns, well Spurm stopped that Hearns in 7.

I think Lara is a bit special. Not legendary, but he's more of a conundrum than Kirkland.

Not saying it's a great win, just that he looked very good doing it. Relaxed, always well positioned, great timing. All the foundations in place.

I don't disagree with your logic, but from my perspective, Paul simply looked shot against Lara.

I don't bandy that word around easily, people exaggerate, calling Cotto shot etc (absurd really).

But Paul looked really much worse than he did in his prime. Slower, weaker, lower workrate, less balance, less punch resistance.

Looked like a pretty diminished fighter to me, far more than someone like Marquez, who is holding up remarkably well for his age.

The reason he was able to give Lara a fight is he was a very effective and difficult fighter to fight in the first place, and even the borderline shot version is a handful for most people.

I think we project our expectations allot. And I think Lara was better than advertised to boot. He beat Ishida 12-0, too

Sure, but I guess part of my point is I don't think Lara had anything to do with Paul looking bad, I think he would have looked like that against anyone. Sometimes you can tell if an opponent is making someone look inept, or if they really do simply look diminished in various ways.

I haven't seen the Ishida fight, have you? If so, how do you think he looked?

He looked sharp & confident against Ishida to me. Still no defense, but good. I just think Lara is pretty good.

The HBO Broadcast team made "Tall Paul" seem more inept then Lara did. Horrible job all around by them.

Williams did seem to be slogging through mud that night. Not the first time either. He's had a career of nights like that, and others mixed in that looks like he had better snap on his punches then previously.

I think he's had a tendency to over-train for some fights, and I don't think he really had this unnatural ability to yo-yo up and down into different weight classes that he thought he had.

He did it out of necessity, but I also think it just as often ended up biting him in the ass.

I think Lara is sloppy as shit, BTW.

Has the potential to be an interesting fight although Alvarez by early KO is the most obvious outcome. If it lasts at least 3-4 rounds we should at the very least see Canelo's chin tested.

yeah that would be a good one....and it makes sense if they are working up to Cotto in December.....and then Mayweather in May...

Same, but one thing does intrigue me about this fight...

Canelo doesn't throw any punches early. In all the Round 1's I've seen him box he's probably thrown 10 total shots.

Will be interesting to see what happens if Kirkland can get him out of his comfort zone early. I imagine Canelo will hit him with a meaty counter and stop him though.

I'd love it if Kirkland jumped on him, overwhelmed and stopped him in like 2 rounds.

Kind of unlikely though, Ginger's chin doesn't look shaky enough, and overall he's clearly a better fighter.

Kirkland is significantly bigger and stronger though, I wouldn't be shocked if he won.

Yeah, Kirkland had better use his all out wolfy berserk style and none of that pity pat bollocks he used last time out.

    All or nothing James!

No doubt, it's the only way he's effective against anyone.

He was pretty much schooled against Molina, however a hideous performance it was from Molina.

If he doesn't charge at Ginger like a wild beast from go he should be banned from television.

Call me crazy, but as bad as he is, I can see Krikland blitzing Canelo and overwhelming him early on. This, of course, is if he goes out there aggressively like he used to.

Im just not sold on Canelo. I dont think hes that all that.

Either way, its gonna be a fun fight. Highly doubtful it goes past 6 either way.

I won't say Kirkland has no chance. Because I said he had no chance against Angulo.

But I do think Ginger will stop him. I'd LOOOOOVVEEEEEE if Kirkland proved me wrong however.

He will. Molina has a difficult, awkward style that's hard to attack. Especially hard to attack when you're as basic as Kirkland.

Canelo isn't awkward, and isn't hard to find. Therefore James shouldnt have much of a problem going at him. Plus, rest assured that Kirkland will be far more "up" for Canelo than he was for Molina. The problem for James will be handling what comes back at him.

    Read my follow up post.

Kirkland will go for broke against Canelo.
