UFC 147 is beyond pathetic

Main event is Wanderlai vs Franklin II, two fighters way past their best who's first fight wasn't really good

Then there's Werdum vs Russow which is a midly intersting fight but Werdum is a huge favorite

The rest is simply garbage and it's not even worht my time to post it

 

Even if it was free, I wouldn't really plan on seeing it unless I've got nothing to do. But 55 $ for this crap !!! you gotta be kidding me

 

I thought Franklin-Wandy was a pretty good scrap the first time. It won fight of the night on a card that also included the Cain-Kongo fight and a brawl between Dan Hardy and Marcus Davis.

That being said, this is the worst main event and supporting card, free or PPV, that I can remember in recent UFC history.

The closest poor main event recently was probably UFC 106 headlined by Ortiz-Griffin II but at least there was a decent supporting card.

Maybe 147 will set an all-time PPV low.

By the way, Wandy-Franklin 1 was a PPV main event as well. At least the rematch is at 185 and not a catch weight. It's good to see Franklin back at 185.

 

Yep.. The UFC should make it free and hope it does well in Brazil. This card, as is, would do terrible as a free Fuel TV card.

 

They honestly should've just cancelled this card. I'm sure they've already invested a lot of time and money into having the card in Brazil, but this card has become a joke. I say cut their losses and reschedule.

This just shows what a problem oversaturation has become for the UFC. They are just putting on too many cards too frequently, and don't have the depth to account for all of the injuries that inevitably happen.

How many PPV's have we gotten stuck with in recent years where injuries (or failed drug tests, etc) have turned a great card into a mediocre at best card?
It doesn't happen all the time, but it happens frequently enough where some PPV's just aren't worth the money it costs to watch them. And this is certainly one of them.

I don't get it though, the roster is fucking huge and some guys still only fight once or twice a year. There should be no problem even replacing a whole card.

 

But how many of those fighters are worthy of headlining a PPV? The UFC may have 300 or so (I have no idea what the official number is) fighters, but only a select few are worthy of headlining a PPV.

But think about it. UFC 146 was last weekend AND the UFC has 4 events in June ending with 147. Excluding the TUF fighters, that is 27 bouts involving 54 fighters in non PPV telecast in a 3 week period in June.

It's impossible to hold those bouts/events with PPV's on both ends.

For my money, the Guida-Maynard main event from the June 22 UFC on Fox, the Demetrious Johnson-Ian McCall rematch on the June 8th UFC on Fox or the fight this weekend between Kampmann and Ellenberger, are all better main events than Franklin-Silva II.

 

They do have that unnumbered UFC (belfort/liddell) that they later made a 1/2 (I actually was at that event), but I don't think they want to have a numbered event that doesn't exist.

They have the roster numbers and means (cannibalize the other events named) to make this an okay event or just keep it really bad and take it off of ppv. Or a combination of both.

 

UFC 147 in Brazil should have been scrapped the very second that Sonnen-Silva II was pulled from the card.

 

i'm actually glad that this rematch was made. i hope silva exacts revenge and knock franklin out. but i agree that it's a shit main event. still, it's way better than ortiz vs. griffin 2. btw, is griffin vs. ortiz 3 still happening? garbage fight.

 

Man injuries etc. have really been doing a number on UFC cards lately. Most cards these days are ending up pretty crappy from what they were originally supposed to be. I agree with TFK says. Oversaturation is really taking to take its toll.

 

Assuming that oversaturation is actually taking place, and I think it is...

there are a few educated guesses that may be behind it:

1. The UFC does not feel that they are indeed oversaturating the market

2. Greed or calculated exploitation. Who cares about the long-term health? Let's make hay when the sun is shining.

3. The UFC ownership is looking to sell out or go public. The nature of the business and its secrecy would make the former more likely than the latter. A flood of events will help put the UFC's overall sales in a positive direction even if the per event numbers suffer. That can often be used as a negotiating tool to get a higher valuation for the company.

 

Or, minus the UFC bashing, maybe they just didn't anticipate the combination of injuries and filling all the cards needed for the FOX deal.

Oh, and how naive to think a potential buyer or investor would simply look at the UFC's top line and not bother to consider viewership or PPV numbers.

You use the singular for buyer and investor. How about using the collective? If you think businesses don't make bullshit moves to improve their balance sheets or make certain ratios look better at the expense of the health of the business then you just don't know how some businesses, such as banks, work.

 

I don't disagree. But that's not what you're talking about. You're talking about the UFC holding more events to drive up top line revenue while reducing margins.

And maybe you don't know business, but that doesn't improve the balance sheet of ANY business. Unless of course you think the expense side of the UFC's balance sheet is improved by holding more events. LOL.

But let's be clear. This isn't really a business discussion. This is just your dislike of the UFC's business practices as a whole creating yet another evil undertone to anything they do.

I listed like 5 hunches and maybe 2 of them have 'evil motive'. However, none of them were individual attacks at the UFC--those tend to be hubris, exploitation, and unfair business practices, at least when they come from me. My speculations were indifferent to the UFC.

1) UFC doesn't feel their over-saturating the market
2) The UFC is greedy and exploitative
3) The UFC is trying falsely inflate the value of the company.

Even though #3 makes no sense as I've pointed out, I'd call 2 out of your 3 hunches pretty evil or at least shady.

But in all honesty, I'm just trying to rile you up in anticipation of our showdown at UFC 147.

I'll tell you what. I will leave the decision as to include UFC 147 or not to the champion and the challenger. If both mikE and Trp want to go with this card, we will. If either of them doesn't, then we'll wait until UFC 148.

Although I originally wanted to include 147, I don't now. It cheapens the title I have worked so hard to win. With UFC 148 on July 7, I say we wait for that. I didn't understand how the UFC Brazil show was already happening without being telecast in the US.

That said, if Triplsec wants his shot at the title at UFC 147, I'll change my vote. I duck no man.

And then at 149 he backs out because he sprains an index finger during a brutal typing training session.

Mike isn't concerned about cheapening the title. He just wants to hold onto it longer. But he's a paper champion now.

Not sure why this didn't dawn on me until now, but how crazy is it that the UFC is holding UFC 147 on Saturday June 23rd with a very dismal line-up and on Friday June 22nd they are holding the UFC on FX card headlined by Guida-Maynard?

LOL... You talk about holding to many events. They have them scheduled 1 day apart and the FX card is better than the PPV UFC 147.
