    Finally got to see it.
My impression on the first view: 8/10

Being a long-time fan of 'Alien' (ever since it came out up until my most recent viewing of it, 2 months ago - it stills holds up now - hasnt dated at all and is still as creepy and atmospheric and strange-as-fuck), I was always intriguied by another Ridley Scott stab at the story being as every sequel failed for me: 'Aliens' (exciting but generic 'lets-blast-the-bugs' action flick), 'Alien 3' (good Fincher-attempt but got bogged down eventually) and 'Alien Resurrection' (I'll leave HR Giger's quote to this one: "the creature actually looked like a turd...a piece of shit")

The acting in this movie is ace, the design is fucking stellar, if you can get over the sometimes pretentiousness of it, its a brilliant, thought-provoking (for 'Alien' fans, that is) existential horror picture.

3D - but really it doesnt matter...it's the story that everyone's wanting to know about ith this one.

My original prediction: "it'll totally disappoint Alien fans" isnt quite justified...but...I dont want to give anything away: if you like the first movie, you'll love and understand this one.

If you're simpleton who loved seeing Hicks and Hudson blow away Xeno-after-Xeno, you'll eat your popcorn with a really stoopid dumb look on your face.

I didn't know this movie had anything to do with Alien.

I had no clue what it was about.

I was going to watch it anyway because I love science fiction, but now hat I hear it's to do with Alien, I'm somewhat less intrigued.

Sly...have you not seen any trailers for it? :dunno:
I'm guessing your lack of enthusiasm is because you think it's the latest in the shitty 'franchise'?
    It's isn't.

And you're the first person I heard of who doesn't like 'Alien'. :scratcher:

No..I LOVE Alien. I also loved Aliens and the first AVP.

I hated Alien3 and Alien Resurrection.

Generally I like the franchise, but I thought Prometheus was something new and unique. I didn't know it was back to the Alien franchise again.

Just saw this movie. Fucking excellent. Fassbender was very good. THis movie had the feel of an 80s classic with modern effects.

    I hope there is a part 2.

Saw it tonight. Thoroughly enjoyed it. But why did they make all the characters so naive? It was like Scott got his inspiration from some cheesey scary movie. Going around touching shit and generally acting like retards who want to die.

So, was the 'U'-shaped spaceship the same one that the crew in 'Alien' encountered with the Engineer in his chair with bones bent outward?
If so, where did all the eggs come from that were found down in the hold?

I can see that the Engineer's were designing biological/mechanical weapons for depolyment on other planets, which obviously got out of their control, but this is one grey-area I can't figure out... :scratcher:

Well obviously it goes in a different direction than Alien. This is a completely different story. She definately has to go the planet where they are from to find her answers. Eventhough the answers were revealed to us, it wasnt revealed to her.

It wasnt the same space ship. It couldnt have been. The engineer was no longer in the chair in Prometheus, he got out and went after elisabeth. That could have been another space ship somewhere else. In Alien you hear that the engineer exploded. Something came out of it. That could have been the Alien created at the end of Metheus. But that is totally pointless in the discussion of this movie.

Alien really has nothing to do with Prometheus. The story of Prometheus is much more interesting IMO.

Yeah, I can see how that would work.
But Anthony - I think you're wrong to suggest neither has anything to do with the other... I don't think its entirely pointless discussion being as the Engineer/s in 'Prometheus' are now to be seen as the same to the Engineer in 'Alien'.

The Engineers were creating allsorts of biological weopans (by using black-slime) for possibly erradicating life on Earth and the original Xenomorph as seen in 'Alien' was just one of them: a different Engineer ship, a different planet in the LV-system, a different situation - and that's the planet the Nostromo landed on in 'Alien'.

Pretty clever move by Ridley Scott, IMO.

They didnt initially want to hurt earthlings. They loved us. They made us. They sacrificed for us. They marked caves with directions on how to find them. But earth humans fucked up and that upset them. Because the black slime reacts to living emotion, we upset them so much 2000 years ago that caused the slime to affect them differently, which caused whatever it was to attack them and kill them. The alien creature was just a mutation of several different births. An accident if you will.

BTW, what do you think happened 2000 years ago that would upset them so much? (im sure you know)

Speaking of the black slime...when the one guy left behind fell face first into the black slime...he came back and had super strength etc. Seeing that the human-like alien was extremely tall and overly muscular, is it a stretch to think that when mutated with the black slime it could become the form of the predator?

At the end when the creature the chick gave birth to fully developed...when it exposed it's teeth and what not...it seemed to me there was also a set of teeth that looked similar to the mouth the predator creature has. With that said...it could possibly explain the rivalry between the two species.

Along that line of thinking...in the most recent Predator movie with Adrien Brody, remember there was a scene where they noted the difference in size between the predator creatures...one was much larger, the other smaller (the one they freed). Could it be those were the genetic strains of humans affected by the black slime and the human like character at the start of the film.

Ok...maybe I'm reading WAY too much into this.

Muzse - I don't think the Predators are anyway linked to this.
Two different worlds - only bought together from a comic-book franchise.

Anthony - for reasons why the Engineers wanted to wipe-out mankind...I don't even know whether its out of anger or Engineer mindset.
Here's a guess: maybe these guys arent actually the Engineers and they're just the military-workers for a higher-power...and they have such tasks like: kill yourself to seed a planet...work on a barren planet for xxxx years...create and fly the bio-weapons to whatever planets we tell you to...act as a host for xenomorphs who in turn will wipe out our enemies....and yet Mankind, who they've pretty much created, get to do whatever they fuck they want for 200 years.

Check out the reaction on the Engineer dude's face when David and the others wake him up and David talks to him: there's no time for a drink, a piss or even 'WTF's going on' - he wants to get in that craft with the payload and get some job done, quick-fast!

Maybe I should read Erich von Däniken's 'Chariots Of The Gods?' - which Scott suggested influenced him going off at a tangent when first making this movie, because it's wrapped up in a melding of religious theory and science.

    David wasnt human.
And the engineers are all about self sacrific. They understood the ultimate sacrifice was death. Prometheus the God was all about Self Sacrific. The engineer in the beginning self sacrificed to create life. David asked a question for the old man who didnt want to sacrific, but prolong his life.

Think of it from the engineer's view. Prior to 2000 years ago, the enginners loved humans. They made us. The even overlooked our progress. This is clear through the cave paintings that basically told us to come find us when you can. When technology allows you too. The directions were to the place was. Now something happened 2000 years ago, where we saw the engineers running for their lives. We never saw what was after them. I think the black goo reacts to emotion. 2000 years ago, the engineer's emotion changed. Causing whatever the black goo was doing to turn on them. 2000 years ago christ was killed by humans. Which basically means that Christ was an enginner sent to earth. We killed him. This caused the engineers to change their feelings. So now the engineer woke up after being asleep so long and the first thing he sees is an old man asking how to prolong his life? THe complete opposite of what the engineers were about. So he ripped David's head off and beat the old man with it. He beat the old man with his own creation.

This movie has many biblical references. And scott sort of admitted to this.
