Well, for anyone that has followed the season, this should be a fun card. And even for those that didn't watch TUF, the Ellenberger-Kampmann fight should be fun. It's a 5 rounder between two guys trying to fall in line behind GSP for a shot at Condit. And Brookins-Oliveira is an interesting fight. Oliveira looked great his last time out as he dropped down to 145 for the first time and submitted Eric Wisely via reverse calf slicer. Yes, there is a name for a submission like this: Main Card (on FX): -Jake Ellenberger (171) vs. Martin Kampmann (170) -Michael Chiesa (156) vs. Al Iaquinta (155) -Johnathan Brookins (146) vs. Charles Oliveira (144) -Max Holloway (145) vs. Pat Schilling (145) -Justin Lawrence (155) vs. John Cofer (155) Preliminary Card (on Fuel TV): -Daron Cruickshank (155) vs. Chris Tickle (154) -Myles Jury (155) vs. Chris Saunders (156) -Cristiano Marcello (156) vs. Sam Sicilia (155) -Jeremy Larsen (155) vs. Joe Proctor (156) Preliminary Card (on Facebook): -John Albert (136) vs. Erik Perez (134)
holy shit, Kampmann knocked him the fuck out with huge knees, this after looking like he himself was about to get ko'd. Gotta love the Hitman.
How fun to watch is Martin Kampmann? The guy has been in savage affairs in 3 of his last 4 fights (Sanchez, Alves, Ellenberger). Last night he was hurt badly a few times. He got his nose jacked up to where it was gushing blood. Yet somehow the dude stayed aggressive and stopped Ellenberger with brutal knees to the face. Forget Johnny Hendricks. Kampmann is the last guy to beat Carlos Condit. Make that fight happen next. And Congrats to Michael Chiesa. Another solid wrestler added to the UFC's Lightweight division.
Yep, Kampmann is awesome, great comeback, good to see him KO that salty little bastard SharonBurger. Kampmann is a warrior, he was hurt, had a badly busted nose, and kept composed and focused enough to quickly turn the fight around the destroy SharonBurger. Chiesa is very good too, these novices stand no chance on the ground against him, but he needs better standup to be a top UFC fighter I think. BTW, at Ellenburger's height listing. Didn't anyone else notice both Kampmann and Ellenburger being listed at exactly the same height, 6 foot? Then when they got to the staredown, Kampmann - a legit 6 footer - was literally 4 inches taller. And in the post fight interview, Ellenburger was an inch shorter than Jon Anik. He obviously has a hang up about his height and either lies about it or wears stilettos when he's measured.
Check it out Trpl, especially the staredown, allegedly both 6 footers :: Then in the post fight interview 'Burger looks an incher shorter than John Anik. He's not even close to being 6 foot. How can a guy's height be exaggerated by like 4 inches? Kind of makes a mockery of height listings.
I noticed it. It was ridiculous. Shocked how Kampmann came back and stopped Ellenburger. Thats what happens when wrestlers think that they can outstrike legit strikers...
How the hell can this happen, seriously? Is Ellenburger really upset about being short and refuses to be listed at his real height? :: And I agree with you, I was shocked too, it was awesome when he landed that crisp little right hand that made Burger do the Irish jig, then wham just destroyed him with a few knees. I was feeling really sorry for Kampmann, thinking fuck, he's a better striker but Burger is just too powerful, but the legit striking prevailed, plus Kampmann's excellent toughness and composure. Kampmann needs to work on his defense though, he gets caught a lot by wild, scrubby punches.
I don't know now. I just went back and watched the Sanchez-Ellenberger weigh-in. Ellengberger is clearly taller than Sanchez and Sanchez is list as 5'10" So either everyone lies about their height or the Kampmann-Ellenberger difference isn't that big. It sure looked like Kampmann had a few inches on him to me but maybe not.
I think Chiesa is very mediocre. I don't think he has the talent to break the top 10. Lawrence might, but I think Chiesa is destined to be one of the least successful TUF winners. I like Brookins a lot, but Oliveira is just a stud.
Not sure about the Sanchez thing, could it have been a dodgy camera angle or footwear? Jon Anik looks about 5'8 to me, he usually looks the same height as fighters that are listed as 5'8/5'9. Look at the interview, Burger looked an inch shorter than Anik, so assuming Anik is 5'9 with shoes on, I actually think Burger is around 5'8. And obviously in the weight, there looked to be 4 inches between Kampmann and Burger. I can't see anymore than 5'9 for Burger, more like 5'8, which makes his 6 foot listing absurd.
Not sure what is up with the Diego comparison, but here he is with 6 foot Kampmann and 6'1 Condit. His height listing is a joke, he is literally 5'8.
At the staredown Kampmann had at least 2 inches on him. Ellenberger is about 5'10'', no taller than that.
Gatti look again, that's not a 2 inch height difference. Kampmann is even leaning in, yet still looks at least 3 inches taller. Imagine Kampmann standing up straight, there'd be 4 inches between them. Put it this way, my best friend is 6 foot, and I'm 5'9, and there is a smaller height difference between us than between Burger and Kampmann.
sanchez was too timid against ellenberger. he should've pushed the pace in the 2nd round and he probably could've won. i'm glad kampmann got the job done. bring on kampmann vs. hendricks. i think martin will clock him too in stand up.
I don't know, Hendricks is not as wild and sloppy as Ellenberger, and Kampmann does not have a great chin (he has great heart and recovery), I can see Hendricks taking him out early. Kampmann eats a lot of clean shots, even Diego had him stunned.
