Mirror, mirror in the wall: who is the fairest of them all at the box office this weekend? Snow White & The Huntsmen did better than projected and came on top with $56.7 million this weekend. The new take of the fairy tale did way much better than the previous Snow White film, Mirror, Mirror and pushed last week's new champion Men in Black III to the second spot. With a gross of $29.3 million, MIB 3 held well and has accumulated so far $112.3 million...which is a little bit lower than the numbers of the previous two MIB films. Adjusting for inflation and the ticket prices of 3D showings, number 3 has sold less seats than the other two. Falling to third place, but still going strong in its fifth week, Marvel The Avengers took another $20.2 million and continues breaking records: it passed The Dark Knight as the third most successful film in America and worldwide it beat Harry Potter & The Deadly Hallows Part 2 to claim the third spot in the All Time box office records. The superhero film will most likely end its domestic run with about $600 million, but it will not reach the numbers of Titanic nor Avatar.
James Cameron's movies always make so much money. He's like the Steve Jobs of Hollywood. He knows what to give the audience before the audience knows what they need to see. ::
The Abyss was a commercial failure. It had a budget of over $70 million and grossed only $54 million.
The extended ending of The Abyss sucked. Avengers has a half-hour more footage to be released on BlueRay. If they re-release the movie in theatres, it might make #2 on the all-time list but I can't see it hitting #1.
If they add some scenes with romantic interest this will lure females who usually don't watch this kind of film. This is one of the rare movies in recent history with ZERO romance in it.
James Cameron's movies are special effects vehicles with scripts written by a 12 year old I hate them Terminator I was enjoyable The rest is basura
