'deadbeat' is the reason they are thrown in jail. the court deems that they could have paid, but they chose not to. this choice might be intentional, but often it is via neglect by not looking for work or something similar. If there were wages to be garnished, they would be.

There is often a period of time for the deadbeat to make good before he's thrown in jail. The courts aren't looking to throw people in jail who are trying to pay.

I think the divorce laws in this country are really archaic. They are based on a time when a women was a second class citizen in reality.Theyy could only get shit jobs,if the could get work at all. They were dependent on their husbands for everything and when he got over it an went for younger model they were lefthigh and dry. So,they stacked the laws to correct for this injustice. However, today women and men are nearly equal. Women have access to education, jobs and marriage has turned more into a business relationship or a devise to raise children. Yet, when divorce hits, suddenly it is 1794 and Good wife SMITH WILL starve without a handout. It is bullshit. I honestly don't understand why an intelligent man would enter into this bullshit contract. Of course, because I am an intelligent man, I never have and never will.
