The whole fight night weight gain argument is annoying. Blame the guys who make the rules, not the boxers who take advantage of it.
Possibly, but as I said, if he can make 135, he's a lightweight, them's the rules. As Slice said, blame the guys who make the rules. Don't forget, if you're a big lightweight boiling down to the weight, that's going to weaken you, and even the playing field a bit. I might be in the minority, but I didn't think Mosley looked that great at lightweight, especially towards the end of his reign. I think he was a bit too big for the weight and he was weakening himself. As soon as he moved to 147 he looked much faster and stronger. He was at his peak in 2000/2001, his handspeed was unbelievable, and he just looked to have much more energy and power too.
Past 15 years, performing at a P4P/championship level for several years afterward - Mayweather Pacquiao Marquez Morales Barrera DLH Hopkins Roy Jones Jr Trinidad (yes, he was greater than Shane) Lennox Lewis Joe Calzaghe Pongsaklek Wonjongkam Too Sharp Rafa Marquez Why is Shane considered great, anyway? Coz he beat DLH once and got a gift against him the second time around?
Disagree on Calzaghe, Rafa, Pong and Johnson. Don't think Roy or Lennox qualify under Neil's criteria, but both are clearly greater than Shane. Tito is borderline (and probably doesn't qualify) as far as I'm concerned. But I don't really feel like arguing that one, Tito was cool.
As I suspected http://sports.yahoo.com/news/shane-...4--box.html;_ylt=AqhUCUyfjwRQ0oh.1LZ.aZ2UxLYF Let the undeserved accolades begin, shitty Shane the tough guy. "Boxer ''Sugar'' Shane Mosley is retiring, ending a career in which he won titles in three different weight classes, beat Oscar De La Hoya twice and never was knocked out." :wack::wack::wack::wack:
You shouln't disagree about Calzaghe. He was 100 times the fighter of shitty Shane and had zero cowardly performances. Tito was not better than Shane. In fact, they are pretty much the same fighter, long fraudulent reigns over shit competition and huge losses against better fighters nearly all the time. Shane at least actually beat DLH.
Calzaghe was the better fighter but let's be real here, Shane had way more balls in terms of who he fought and when than Calzaghe did. Calzaghe was a coward in that respect. All the biggest names on his resume were past their primes. As embarrassing as his performances might have been in those fights, Shane at least agreed to fight Forrest and Wright, two risky and avoided fighters.
I don't agree completely there. Joe deserves shit for his level of opposition but Lacy and Kessler where in there absolute primes. It seems like a shit victory, but the Lacy victory was huge at the time. It isn't Joe's fault that Lacy tore his shoulder off his body and could never fight decently again. The Kessler victory was big then and now. Overall, though Joe did not seek out the best, but your statement that the biggest names were all past it is nonsense. Joe was a vastly better fighter and Shane's resume was complete shit until the Oscar fight.
Calz better than Mosley? Better than PRIME Mosley? Oh GTFOH!!!!!!!!!!! Prime Shane was a league above that opportunistic Welsh slapper.
I'd say Calzaghe was a better, more versatile fighter. It's arguable though. What isn't arguable is that Mosley had a way better career. Mosley could EASILY have four fewer losses if he did what everyone else was doing and avoided Forrest and Wright. Shane fought everyone.
Calz did have a higher ring IQ than Shane. I'll give him that much. But Shane was far more talented, and although more one dimensional, that one dimension he had was better than any dimension Joe had.
Firstly, he was more than a BIT faster. Calz's handspeed isn't in the same Universe as young Mosley's. Shane also had more power, better body puncher, better chin, and a better combo puncher.
Yeah, lightweight and early welter Shane WAS a very good fighter. Looked as good if not better than Calzaghe vs. the same level of opposition Joe typically fought. If Calzaghe exclusively fought elite fighters for the better part of a decade he'd have some losses. Joe fought one good fighter in his prime (Kessler), and one still serviceable old fighter (Hopkins). That, along with the Lacy win (big at the time, pooped on in retrospect) does not make him a greater fighter than Shane Mosley.
Lol, he didn't blow Joe out of the water, young Joe was a fast dude. Power maybe yeah, although again I feel a young Calzaghe hit pretty hard, before the hand problems took hold. Better chin? Based on what? The only time I thought Joe was in any trouble off a knockdown was the freak forearm punch he took off Roy. Not saying Mosley had a bad chin, obviously he didn't, but there's nothing really to say he had a better chin when neither have really been out on their feet or anything. Combo punching was Joe's forte (yea yea blada blada, they're slapalanches bla bla...still effective though, and Joe didn't get discouraged from throwing them like Shane did). You're overrating Mosley/underrating Calzaghe significantly.
There respective kayo ration was nearly identical. Shane had slightly more power p4p then shitty Shane.
I know that and that is why Shane has more power p4p. I keep hearing people say Joe was a slapper, yet his kayo percentage was almost 70%. Nearly 7 out of 10 guys didn't see the final bell. Joe was not feather fisted no matter how much people like X try to say it. It is bullshit, a lie. Yet,most of you think sERGIO pUSSY is a puncher, yet he has a kayo percent only slightly more than Chris Byrd. :34::34:
Nonsense. Calzaghe was CLEARLY the better fighter. Calzaghe was fast, high workrate, smart in the ring, versatile, pretty elusive. Shane was a speed slick slugger.
Nah. Shane beat De La Hoya (once IMO) and that's it. IT!!!!! Calzaghe's victories over Hopkins (albeit older version), Lacy (although medicore, Lacy was undefeated at the time and Calzaghe won every second), and Eubank, nullify Shane's best wins (wins are the only thing that's relevant when speaking of opposition faced). After that Calzage was clearly more dominant and retired 46-0, in case y'all forgot!
What like he did to Rivera? :: Same size, Calzaghe wouldn't have lost a second against Rivera, you know it and everyone knows it.
