10 year anniversary of Lewis vs Tyson!

June 8, 2002! By far the most intense times ever in the history of boxing forums! 5-6 months leading up to the fight saw a sh*t load of smack wars going on back on SecondsOut, Boxing.com and every other forum out there.

So what do you remember 10 years ago during the lead up and the night of the fight? I wish we could have another major fight like this so the forums get populated again with crazy fans! :clapagain: Too bad the sport doesn't have the wild fans it used to have.

As for Lewis/Tyson itself, a one sided demolition job! Do you think Boxing will ever have a period like this again with this kind of anticipation and excitement? I don't think any group of fans could ever rival the Tyson fanatics. It was madness! The fight itself needed no build up.

 

I was a HUGE Lewis fan... I was sure he would win, but I was a very inexperienced big fight viewer at the time. We never had means to purchase PPV when I was a kid, but my Dad took me and my best friend to a bar shady enough to let us minors in to watch the fight. First time I saw a PPV main event live, before that it was always one week later on TSN.

My hands were literally shaking during the fighter intros. So much fucking build up on Boxing.com

I wish I still got excited like that for fights.

My fondest memories of the build up was a young LOK guaranteeing a Tyson KO in 30 seconds in what felt like 500 different posts. ::

 

Tyson was winning that fight when the corrupt ref prematurely stopped it.

Scandalous.

Even though I knew Lennox would win,....I thought that Tyson would put up a better effort. Stink fight

 

Lewis stepped to him 15 or 20 seconds in and landed those uppercuts. Pretty much insured Tyson wouldn't risk anything for the rest of the fight.

 

I just remember being shocked at many people thought Tyson had even the slightest chance

secondsout was literally infested with guys who seriously thought Tyson was going to win

As a point of comparison to heavyweights in 2012...there's no way wald pussy has the courage the throw those early uppercuts. It's at least 50/50 that 2002 Tyson stops wald pussy in a couple of rounds.

That was one of my favourite boxing events/nights in watching boxing.

 

Lewis-Tyson was THE greatest period to be on a boxing messageboard, bar none. SecondsOut was buzzing. Tito-Vargas was a good one too.

 

You have to hate boxing to like that fight. A shell of a former great fighter getting battered about by the current champion, who fought scared for most of the fight to boot. That fight was about money and nothing else.

 

Quite a few of us were young up and comers at the time.

 

Agree, if anything it just showed how boring and pussy Lennox pussy was taking 8 rounds to stop a terrified and shot fighter. People as usual are completely "misremembering." No legitimate posters thought Tyson had a chance. It was guys like LOK and the Tyson trolls. DISGRACEFUL EFFORT by Lewis as usual. It was his career in a nutshell. An inferior weaker smaller fighter being carried in a boring fashion. I said before this fight it was an executuion as did most intelligent posters. This fight was significant for the Tyson haters only.

exactly. It makes me laugh and simultaneously angry that Lewis is remembered fondly. Most of his fights were absolutely disgraceful. Wasn't it Shakespeare who said "A pussy by another name is still Lennox Lewis."Equally infuriating is people like Lewis yet hate Wald Pussy. They are basically the same fighter although Wald used to be fun to watch, that can never be said of Lennox Pussy.

 

I absolutely agree, it's mind boggling that wald pussy gets more shit than lennox pussy, and for some bizarre reason lennox pussy is remembered with rose tinted glasses as this majestic beast of a heavyweight. He was a fucking disgrace. I was sickened by most of his performances, especially against Holyfield. He really was no better than wald pussy.

 

to be fair, he was far worse. Wald pussy has a terrible chin, a stiff breeze has him hurt. Lewis was no Oliver Mcall(opps too soon) in the chin department, but he was sturdier than Wald pussy. Yet he too as many risks. Lewis versus the Mohawk bum was the worst fight in heavyweight history.

 

I was thinking that actually, at least wald pussy has more of an excuse, his chin is absolutely horrible. Lummox pussy was nowhere near as china chinned.

Not only that, but aesthetically lummox pussy's style was even more displeasing.

The way he would cower behind that pathetic, pawing jab, with that hideous, gormless face of his. At least wald pussy has a fast, stiff jab.

i would have bet money.. i really really thought it would be over within 30 seconds.. i just thought as washed up and shot as Tyson was.. Lemmon would get stretched


I agree with others though that say.. this was not a good fight it was sad.

it is a fact that Tyson could not even get licensed in most states.. they almost stopped the fight from happeneing due to him being on anti depression medicine.

to see a former PHENOM go in there and just get dominated but a euro bum like that was just sad

I am no great fan of Lennox, but the difference between Lennox and Wald Pussy is that Lennox was just a flat out much better fighter overall. He fought with excessive caution, WP just fights terrified. Lennox never spent an entire fight hanging on to a bum for dear life, he would have crushed a guy like Peter with ease.

 

As we said though, that just makes Lummox's cowardice even worse. wald pussy literally has a glass chin, he pretty much has to fight how he does, in order to not get KO'd.

lummox pussy didn't have to fight like that, he could have afforded to be significantly more aggressive, he was just a boring coward.

His performances against Holy and mohawk guy were as bad as any wald pussy performances.
