Doesnt have to be crippling power.... just alot more than he had,..say...Leonard like power.

Here is the question. Would he be the greatest fighter of all time?

I think his lack of power led him to adopt a defensive style. He would've been more aggressive.

Maybe, but for a guy who couldn't bust an egg with his best straight left,...he was aggressive.

Or if Lewis had a granite chin.
Or if Ali had Shaver's power
    Or Tyson had Ali's brain
Or if PBF had genuine confidence

What about if Tua wasn't fat

    Incoherent.
I suspect that there is a necessary connection between Tua & Fatness.
Non-Fat Tua would be like a square circle.

Who would have been better - Whitaker with Hearns' power or Hearns with Hagler's chin?

Why you gotta make my brain hurt like that?

It's tempting to say Hearns because of the range... but Pea was so, SO slippery and skillful. If Pea was identical stylewise only he had top level power, I'd go with him gun to my my head.

I would have to say Hearns. He had freakish range and power, with an awesome jab and overall offensive skill, that coupled with an iron chin, he'd be more or less unbeatable. His only flaw then would be suspect stamina.

I think Whitaker with power would still be more beatable than Hearns with an iron chin.

Sweet Pea with Hearns power might be the best fighter ever.

If If If......what if Wlad had a great chin....he'd probably have less power.

It's called compensation. When you see somebody with no arms putting money in a vending machine with their toes, you can't look at them and say "damn, if they had arms, they would be lethal".

The reason they are so good with their feet is because they have to me.

  19. It's a silly thread.

What if Tyson had heart and dedication? I mean where do you stop with these what ifs?

I dont know. Even early on, Tyson wanted to quit on his stool and needed to be talked out of it.

That time he wanted to quit on his stool, remember, it was that time he wanted to quit on his stool.

I was watching a documentary and i cant remember who said. if it was Rooney or Atlas, but they said, Tyson couldnt knock someone out and the guy wasnt scared of Tyson and Tyson wanted out of the fight. They needed to convince Tyson to not quit.

Atlas also once told a story how Tyson almost destroyed another fighter but when the guy refused to quit, it was Tyson who almost quit and he yelled, “Don’t you do it Mike!”

If Atlas is the only source, then that is at least a little bit questionable.

You could be right, but we did see him crying at the Jr. Olympics and wanting to go home.

Atlas doesn't like Mike, and he is prone to make up stories about people he doesn't like. I despise how he is deferred to and consulted as if he was some sort of sage. He's an excitable oaf with a veneer of respectability. A temperamental hothead.

To me, Hearns had other issues beyond his chin. On the other hand, Pea only lacked a little more bang.

Keep in mind, an improved chin isn't going to help Tommy's stamina. He would have folded against Hagler, at that pace, even if he had Chuvalo's chin. Same with the first Leonard fight.

But in my opinion, Whitaker never lost a fight in his prime except for the first Riviera fight, so the bigger punch would probably have made those crazy decisions against him seem even crazier.
